在江戶時代初期，當時候的建城名家加藤清正和籐堂高虎兩位，在德川家張的邀請下，先後建造了名古屋城、大阪城和熊本城三座，這三座城實用機能性強，型態優雅，從江戶時代便被稱為最美之城。

觀光是獲取外匯的最佳國家資產，端看有沒有心認真規劃、經營和行銷。
由於近幾年中華航空重新開闢了廣島縣的定期航班，因此當中較為所熟知的就是山口縣秋芳洞，算是台灣的觀光市場當中，較常接觸的鐘乳洞觀光景點，這也是日本三大鐘乳洞之一，另外兩個則是岩手縣龍泉洞及高知縣龍河洞。
