simonw's dogproxy at master - GitHub

by karlcow

A very simple dog pile preventing proxy. The dog pile effect (also known as a thundering herd) affects caching systems that use time-based expiry. In a heavy traffic system, a cached item expiring could cause dozens of parallel "update" requests to be fired at once. dogproxy assumes that these update requests go over HTTP. It joins together simultaneous requests for the same URL, and only performs one actual fetch to that resource.

Adobe Labs - Stratus

by srcmax

RTMFP is the evolution of media delivery and real time communication over the Internet enabling peers on the network to assist in delivery. Stratus was first introduced in 2008 as a rendezvous-only service that allowed clients to send data from client to client without passing through a server. Adobe Flash Player 10, which debuted peer assisted networking, has been adopted today by over 90% of all internet connected PCs.

Stratus has now been upgraded to support new RTMFP groups technology built within Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta and Adobe AIR® 2 beta.

Born Geek » Firefox Toolbar Tutorial

by julie & 9 others

This tutorial explains how to create a toolbar extension for the Firefox web browser (specifically for version 1.5 and later). It provides an overview of how extensions are developed, the tools required to create an extension, and details on how toolbars are created. Please note that this tutorial is lengthy; I recommend spending time with it over the course of a few days (it makes for a good weekend read).

Bank Run - iPhone Game and Interactive Action Movie

by gregg
After their wildly successful interactive zombie flick The Outbreak (although not necessarily commercially so), the talented folks at Silk Tricky are at it again with a new slice of genre goodness ... this time, kicking ass with an action film entitled 'Bank Run'. The soon-to-be-released interactive experience is part live action movie, part choose your own adventure, part interactive online game and part iPhone game. In a nutshell, the front half (part 1) of this project is custom built online, interactive cinema (similar to The Outbreak, with some enhanced action based interactivity). The back end is where things extend to a distribution platform (thanks to Apple) that might work as a revenue model for indie undertakings in the interactive space.
