Comme son nom l'indique, le terre-paille est un mélange de terre et de paille utilisé en remplissage de murs comme isolant écologique.
Comme la majorité des isolants, ce n'est pas un matériau porteur, il y a donc besoin d'une structure qui assure la rigidité de la construction, une structure bois de préférence.
Ses qualités? Le prix des plus bas voire gratuit de ses constituant, la vibration propre du matériau, la possibilité d'être réalisé sans compétence particulière.
Ma compétence dans ce domaine étant limitée à une réalisation, je réunis ici les informations issues de divers constructeur et en particulier de Jean-François Burri qui l'a utilisé abondamment dans ses maisons. Bien qu'une partie importante de leur savoir faire soit difficile à communiquer dans un texte car il résulte de leur pratique.
Contrairement au torchis, il ne semble pas que le terre-paille ait été utilisé dans la construction traditionnelle..
