This got me thinking about the data that is hidden in various social network information streams - Facebook & Twitter updates in particular. People share a lot of information in their tweets - some of it shared intentionally, and some of it which could be uncovered with some rudimentary searching. I wondered if it would be possible to extract travel information from people’s public Twitter streams by searching for the term ‘Just landed in…’.

I use a fun bit of Django code to pull these various items together, sorted by publication date, and I’d like to share how this bit of tumblelog-like functionality works.

tweetCC started as a conversation on Twitter between Andy Clarke and Brian Suda. Andy wanted to show tweets and avatars for a new book on web design.
His publisher needed him to get permissions to republish and that meant asking everyone. This was, not to put too fine a point on it, a pain. Brian agreed.
