sixapart's remoteobjects at master - GitHub

by karlcow

remoteobjects are real subclassable Python objects on which you can build a rich API library. remoteobjects provides easy coding and transfer between Python objects and a JSON REST API. You can define the resources in a RESTful API as `RemoteObject` classes and their properties. These objects then support using the basic HTTP verbs to request and submit data to the API.

Hardware interrupt - IDE ATA and ATAPI disks use PIO mode after multiple time-out or CRC errors occur * In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, this time-out value is always 10 seconds.

by decembre
* An alternate, less-aggressive policy is implemented to reduce the transfer mode (from faster to slower DMA modes, and then eventually to PIO mode) on time-out and CRC errors. The existing behavior is that the IDE/ATAPI Port driver (Atapi.sys) reduces the transfer mode after any 6 cumulative time-out or CRC errors. When the new policy is implemented by this fix, Atapi.sys reduces the transfer mode only after 6 consecutive time-out or CRC errors. This new policy is implemented only if the registry value that is described later in this article is present. To implement the alternate behavior (reducing the transfer mode after six consecutive time-out or CRC errors instead of after six cumulative time-out or CRC errors), you must modify the registry as described below after you apply the hotfix..

Cocoa with Love: A simple, extensible HTTP server in Cocoa

by karlcow

HTTP is one of the simpler protocols to implement for communication between computers. On the iPhone, since there are no APIs for data synchronization or file sharing, embedding an HTTP server is one of the best ways to transfer data from your iPhone application to a computer. In this post I'll show you how to write your own simple but extensible HTTP server. The server classes will also work on Mac OS X (Cocoa un-Touched).

Unboxing Web-Oriented Architecture: The 6 Aspects Of An Emergent Architectural Style

by night.kame

Transfer Methods. This is at the core of REST and ROA and is the foundation of Web-Oriented Architecture. You can read Roy Fielding's chapter on REST (he conceived of the approach originally) or you can just follow the simple guidelines here. At other times, protocols like BitTorrent can be used if the requirements warrant it, but these are exceptional scenarios that I will cover at some point in the future.

Ne pas citer XMPP dans les "Transfer Methods" quelque jours après l'annonce de Google Wave, et surtout le mettre dans le schéma au niveau des Microformats fait perdre toute crédibilité à l'article.

Joining the docs - Us Now

by karlcow

Mass communication is a phrase that’s been re-defined over the centuries, as tools to transfer what people think, what they want and how they feel have developed with human progress. Cave paintings, language, stone indentations, the written word, the printing press, the gramophone, the telephone, cinema, radio, television, computers – and now the Internet.

FTP - File Transfer Protocol - Wikipédia

by decembre

ShareTool

by rmaltete (via)
Access your Bonjour Services from anywhere, securely. Scenario: You've just purchased a brand new iMac and MacBook and are simply loving it. You've set up your home or office network exactly the way you want it. You have file sharing between the two machines and can transfer your documents easily between them; you can listen to your iMac's iTunes Library from the MacBook and view your MacBook's iPhoto Library from your iMac. Everything on your network works exactly as you want it to and life is beautiful. What happens when you have to leave (i.e. work or travel) the comfort of your new custom configured network? Wouldn't it be nice to know that with one mouse click you will be able to access almost everything you've just setup from anywhere in the world securely? Before ShareTool, this was simply not possible without an extremely (if at all possible) complicated setup even for those in the know. Not anymore! With ShareTool, that complex procedure is reduced to a simple mouse click and as a result, yes, you can be at two places at the same time! ShareTool lets you access all of the Bonjour services on your home network from anywhere in the world. This includes iTunes Music Sharing, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, printing, and more. With ShareTool, you can listen to your entire iTunes music library at work, control the screen of any of your home computers, or grab that important file you forgot to bring with you. And this is simply the tip of the iceberg. With ShareTool, it's as if you've never left your own network! Some of the new features of ShareTool include the following: Simple Setup: ShareTool automatically configures routers supporting NAT-PMP or UPnP. Easy Access: Remote services automatically appear in Finder, iTunes, and other applications. Compatibility: ShareTool enables remote access for any application or service that advertises itself using Bonjour and runs over TCP/IP. Security: All network traffic is strongly encrypted. Access to your services requires your Mac OS X username and password. Dynamic domain name support On the fly compression: Transfer large files quickly. Secure web browsing: surf the internet using your own browser securely. and much more!

Archive of W3C News in 2008

by CharlesNepote

2008-10-15: The Semantic Web Deployment Working Group and the XHTML2 Working Group published the W3C Recommendation RDFa in XHTML: Syntax and Processing. This specification allows publishers to express structured data on the Web within XHTML. This allows tools to read it, enabling a new world of user functionality, allowing users to transfer structured data between applications and web sites, and allowing browsing applications to improve the user experience. For those looking for an introduction to the use of RDFa and some real-world examples, please consult the updated RDFa Primer. Learn more about the Semantic Web Activity and the HTML Activity.

design engaged 2008 (tecznotes)

by karlcow

All of this is a way of showing how Roy T. Fielding's 2000 PhD thesis on Representational State Transfer has utterly dominated the discourse of publishing through the web. It's an incredibly productive architectural idea, and it's been the primary area of experimentation and development for geeks like us since the implosion of the previous web bubble.

Download Reporting Services Scripter

by ERSWeb (via)
Reporting Services Scripter is a .NET Windows Forms application that enables scripting and transfer of all Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services catalog items to aid in transferring them from one server to another. It can also be used to easily move items on mass from one Reporting Services folder to another on the same server. Depending on the scripting options chosen, Reporting Services Scripter can also transfer all catalog item properties such as Descriptions, History options, Execution options (including report specific and shared schedules), Subscriptions (normal and data driven) and server side report parameters.

Efficient data transfer through zero copy

by BlueVoodoo
This article explains how you can improve the performance of I/O-intensive Java applications running on Linux and UNIX platforms through a technique called zero copy. Zero copy lets you avoid redundant data copies between intermediate buffers and reduces the number of context switches between user space and kernel space.
