Timeline: The Selling of the Cellphone -- and Warnings Unheeded - Interactive - NYTimes.com

by sbrothier
Since 1984, when car phones came into fashion, they were quickly marketed to drivers as a means to mobile freedom. Studies would soon show that using a phone while driving could be a distraction for motorists. Still, the industry resisted legislative action to ban handsets in cars, as warnings about distracted driving went unheeded.

by gregg
Kroo Bay is an informal housing settlement located on the coastline in central Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. It has an estimated population of 5,500 people. Residents of Kroo Bay lack adequate access to sanitation and health services.[1] Health care workers in Kroo Bay report a high incidence of child malnutrition, which is caused by poverty and accentuated by rising global food prices.[2]

rules for living well

by blackgoldfish
Choose quality over quantity with everything - shoes, friends, food - everything. Look into alternative forms of medicine. Take the time to figure out who you really are, what you like and dislike, what you need and don't. Live within your means and respect every dollar you make. Cultivate a passion. Eat Real Food! Stay away from processed and buy local whenever you can. Refuse to give in to texting. As hard as it is, acknowledge and work on whatever keeps you from living the life of your dreams. Refuse to play small or dim your light in order to make others comfortable. Listen to your body. Spend part of every day in silence, even if it's ten minutes. Create a living space that reflects who you are. Make visual beauty a priority. Tell people you love them often. Be true to yourself at all costs.
