Code Intensity: SVN Externals are Evil; Use Piston or Braid
the evil is SVN itself not handling changing of externals (i.e. to/from an external) in basic operations like updates and merges, which may cause a lot of manual work on your end, and break automated builds or similar.
wondering about massively usage of it.

How to Branch Properly
So to help out those who've had nightmarish merge experiences, or to ease the fears of those who have yet to delve into the mysterious world of subversion branches and merges, I have decided to share my thoughts on proper branching technique.
The idea then is to take the changes that are going on in our project's trunk and apply them to our branch.
