Paul Ramsey: OpenStreetMap moves to PostgreSQL
The speedy success of the hardware appeal (target reached in less than three days) was pretty impressive, but what really perked my (PostgreSQL fanboi) ears up was the news that the new hardware was going to run PostgreSQL, instead of the MySQL database OSM has used from the start. As of April 19, OSM is running their new API live on PostgreSQL.

Smoky voiced singer Madeleine Peyroux’s earthy new album ‘Bare Bones’ will be released March 10, 2009 on Rounder Records. Peyroux — who’s achieved critical notice and sales success with her signature “postmodernist coolness” (LA Times) — had a hand in writing all the songs on ‘Bare Bones,’ including collaborations with album producer Larry Klein, Walter Becker, Julian Coryell, Joe Henry, David Batteau and Sean Wayland. One song, “I Must Be Saved,” was written entirely by Peyroux. With ‘Bare Bones,’ Peyroux has crafted her best album yet, an artistic breakthrough that finds her sublime voice wrapped around a collection of songs that she helped craft from their inception, marking her evolution as a songwriter.

POST MAGAZINE
POST is an accessible student initiated magazine. Architecture journals traditionally critique buildings just after completion, contributing to their portrayal as static and uncontaminated objects. POST sits outside of this convention, revisiting spaces. It explores architecture as an ever-involving process, acknowledging that the success of a space largely depends upon its relationship with the inhabitant. POST aims to represent multiple attitudes towards architecture from inhabitant through to practitioner; architect, developer, builder, artist, interior designer, writer etc.

In the late 1980s, Japan was awash in seemingly unlimited wealth and rising toward what would be the peak of its modern economic success, power, and influence. In 1991 the same lethal combination of risky loans, inflated stocks, and real estate speculation that created this "bubble economy" caused it to burst, plunging the country into its worst recession since World War II.

G18: Ensuring that a contrast ratio of at least 5:1 exists between text (and images of text) and background behind the text | Techniques for WCAG 2.0
The objective of this technique is to make sure that users can read text that is presented over a background. For Success Criterion 1.4.3, this technique describes the minimum contrast ratio for text that is less than 18 point (if not bold) and less than 14 point (if bold). For Success Criterion 1.4.5, this technique relaxes the 7:1 contrast ratio requirement for text that is at least 18 point (if not bold) or at least 14 point (if bold).

Mobile Opportunity: App stores and APIs: It's the ecosystem, stupid
It's the ecosystem, stupid The success of a developer program is not driven just by the beauty of the APIs or the store, but by how the overall ecosystem works to enable developers to prosper.

One opens an API as a business development initiative, and so evaluating its success should be based on how it performs in that context.
