From France, Oil for Fraud, a Maha Productions program for ARTE, was named best investigative and current affairs program; Skirt Day, an ARTE France production, was named best made-for-TV movie; and Gaza-Sderot: life in spite of everything, produced by Bo Travail in association with Alma Films, Trabelsi Productions, Ramattan Studio and Upian.com, was recognized as best original online program.

It’s day two at the Input conference in Warsaw and I wanted to share the best project I’ve seen so far. Gaza/Sderot - Life in Spite of Everything is a series of 80 films shot over 40 days — one per day in Gaza and one per day in the town of nearby Sderot. Each is a day-in-the-life style video that follows one of 14 people (seven in each town).

Arik Bernstein the Co- Producer of the project tells us about the idea behind this project and its feedback around the world. Recently Gaza-Sderot was nominated for an International Digital Emmy Award in the non-fiction category.

以色列人常常說，世人只看到巴勒斯坦人的苦難，卻看不到以色列人的傷痛。這倒令我反省一下自己是否真的偏頗了。例如以色列南部城鎮 Sderot，過去五年一直受哈馬斯火箭威脅，死傷雖然不多，但當你老是活在火箭陰影下，時刻要準備跑進防空洞，日子委實難過。法國電視台arte去年進行了一項拍攝計劃，名為 Gaza-Sderot -Life in spite of everything，兩支攝製隊每天分別在這兩座距離只有三公里城鎮的拍攝，捕捉兩地平民百姓的生活，由他們自己細說生活及夢想如何被無休止的衝突打斷。我看着心想，若以軍和哈馬斯知道「攻擊目標」都是這些活生生的人，他們會否有所猶豫？

On page 30, Elinor Davidov writes about a 40-episode television documentary called Gaza-Sderot, Life in Spite of Everything. Each episode features an interview with an ordinary person on either side of the border, describing daily life. The result is a fascinating combination of drama and banality that makes each episode worth watching. It was co-produced by a staff from Sderot’s Sapir College, Gaza’s Ramattan Studios and the German-French arte.tv (photos and bio blurbs are here).

Il progetto Gaza/Sderot: Life in Spite of Everything [in] [Gaza/Sderot: vivere a dispetto di tutto] non è che uno dei principali esempi di come i media online possano gettare un ponte tra differenti culture e visioni del mondo. Il progetto, realizzata da ARTE.tv [fr], stazione televisiva culturale franco-tedesca, ha seguito la vita quotidana di dodici persone residenti da entrambe le parti di un confine segnato dalla violenza, riproponendole su un sito web per dieci settimane fino al 23 dicembre scorso. I video, della durata di due minuti ciascuno, raccontano alcuni momenti della vita di sei abitanti di Gaza, in Palestina, e di sei residenti di Sderot, in Israele, dall'altro lato del confine, nell'arco di due mesi.

When I started this production I was disconnected from the local reality, from the feelings of Sderot's people on the one side and especially from the people of Gaza.
While working, I started understanding there's another side of the coin here. Over Face book, I made some friends, had fun and laughs with them, suddenly I was communicating. A sympathy to the other side developed: here are young people, like me. They have the same needs and dreams.

The Gaza/Sderot: Life in Spite of Everything Project is one of the prime examples of the variety of ways a bridge between different cultures and world-views can be created through online media. In this project created by ARTE.tv, a French-German cultural television station, twelve people going on their day to day business on either side of a violent border were exposed on a website for ten week project which ended on December 23rd.
