A l'instar de iTunes ou de Songbird, musikCube est un logiciel complet destiné aux mélomanes. L'interface est sobre, mais agréable et fonctionnelle avec la classique organisation en trois zones.
Le lecteur intégré supporte par défaut les formats mp3, ogg, flac et cd audio. musikCube fonctionne avec un système de plugin ce qui permet de compléter la liste des formats supportés par le AAC, le MOD, le WMA ou le WAV.
musikCube est capable d'extraire de la musique (ripper) à partir de CD audio et de la convertir dans un des formats supportés. Les fichiers créés sont alors automatiquement « taggés » suivant un masque personnalisable et stockés dans le répertoire de la bibliothèque.
Entièrement libre et gratuit, musikCube s'appuie sur une base « sqlite » afin d'offrir de bonnes performances au niveau de la gestion et du classement des titres. Il permet également de générer des listes de lecture automatiques et dynamiques qui peuvent se baser sur vos habitudes d'écoutes. Le logiciel est également capable de gérer l'ensemble des baladeurs compatibles USB Mass Storage et peut être appuyé par différents plugins.
