These Iai arts were performed by NAGAE Matasaburo, in his sixties (guess). He was born and lived in Nagasaki, received the 7th grade of Kendo and 8th grade of Iai from Zen-Nippon Kendo Renmei (All-Japan Kendo Federation). He also practiced Shinto Munen style Iai. The original movies were recorded in 8mm films, then edited in a VHS tape. It's not known who took and maintained these films (maybe one of Matasaburo's disciples did). They were converted to DV (digital video) format, stored in HDD, finally created QuickTime H.263 format (360x240, 15fps, compressed).

There are dozens of temples and shrines near my home, many dating from the 8th to 13th centuries, many open to the public. There are now 2,000 photos in this library, ranging from the treasures of Kamakura to those of Nara, Kyoto, and elsewhere in Japan.

Omodaka’s 21st-century disco version of Kokiriko Bushi — an ancient folk song that Gokayama (Toyama prefecture) villagers used to perform for the local Shinto deities — combines synthesized vocals with a Stevie Wonder-ish bassline and ’80s video game chiptune sounds, and the wonderfully quirky and surreal video (animated by Teppei Maki) features a fragile skeleton dancer that shares the floor with lots of disembodied hands and floating eyeball-headed ladies. En fonction de l'époque, on dira qu'une lame est Koto (littéralement: ancien sabre) si elle a été produite avant 1600; elle sera Shinto (littéralement nouveau sabre) entre 1600 et 1800; après 1800, on dira qu'elle est Shinshinto (littéralement nouveau nouveau sabre).
