WPA2 : Local Code / Real Estates on Vimeo

by karlcow

Local Code : Real Estates uses geospatial analysis to identify thousands of publicly owned abandoned sites in major US cities, imagining this distributed, vacant landscape as a new urban system. Using parametric design, a landscape proposal for each site is tailored to local conditions, optimizing thermal and hydrological performance to enhance the whole city’s ecology—and relieving burdens on existing infrastructure. Local Code’s quantifiable effects on energy usage and stormwater remediation eradicate the need for more expensive, yet invisible, sewer and electrical upgrades. In addition, the project uses citizen participation to conceive a new, more public infrastructure as well —a robust network of urban greenways with tangible benefits to the health and safety of every citizen.

The Vanishing Point: Montreal Drains

by karlcow

Montreal's Cote St-Luc Collector, named Oval Flow by discoverers Nel and Andrew, is a collector sewer that drains the streets and toilets of a swath of western Montreal. Like many of the systems recently discovered in Montreal, it's very long, very deep, and very full of combined sewage.

by Bloupy
Sewer Leak is a new independent label bringing you spicy flavours from the dark, moist corners of Nordic drainpipes far away from the mainstream sewage. The Finnish beat freaks behind the label are producers and DJs with a long history in dealing with electronic music. The label will offer releases with an electro/disco twist.

ottawasun.com - Ottawa and Region - Toll may make trips a fee ride

by multilinko (via)
Travelling into downtown Ottawa could get costly if a city councillor has his way. If rising gas prices aren’t enough to make you take the bus, maybe a congestion charge will. Capital Coun. Clive Doucet wants the city to charge a user fee for every car heading into the downtown core to help pay for road and sewer repairs in older Ottawa neighbourhoods. He wants the city to experiment with a two-year pilot project to test its effectiveness and gauge the public’s reaction to the charge. The idea is similar to one instituted by London, England, which began charging drivers a toll in an effort to discourage cars in the capital’s core.
