My name is Jeff Nolan and I write Venture Chronicles. What started, in 2002, as a simple initiative to understand this thing called “blogs” that I kept hearing about has evolved into something much more significant. Along the way to becoming a bona fide blogger I started to understand the implications of user generated content. At the time I was a venture capitalist for SAP, the enterprise software company, and in my travels in the enterprise software market it became evident that blogging would be a powerful communication channel for enterprises to use, and a powerful information collection mechanism for bottom up corporate intelligence. Combined with search technology, social networking software, and wikis, I was witnessing the inception of an entirely new generation of knowledge management software. Des outils, progiciel intégré de gestion (ERP), gestion des relations clients (CRM) et des connaissances (KM), regroupés en une même solution hébergée. Celle-ci a été conçue pour répondre aux besoins des petites et moyennes entreprises (utilisation non limitée en temps ou en nombre d'utilisateurs). Les PME qui le souhaitent pourront bénéfier des prestations proposées par Nexedi, assistance, conseil, configuration à la demande, migration vers une solution ERP5 Enterprise.
ERP5 Express est accessible en ligne, après inscription. Basée sur le serveur d'applications Zope et le langage Python, la solution fonctionne sous de multiples plates-formes : Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Nokia Symbian S60, etc. « Notre progiciel ERP5 est utilisé par une banque centrale, par EADS Astrium, par des agences gouvernementales et des PME pour gérer le coeur de leur informatique de gestion », indique Jean-Paul Smets, président de Nexedi. Il précise, dans un communiqué daté du 14 avril 2008, « ERP5 Express ajoute à cet existant reconnu une nouvelle vision d'ERP5 en tant que solution de gestion simple, gratuite et universelle pour toutes les PME dans le monde ».
Sur le marché des progiciels open source, alternatives aux solutions propriétaires d'acteurs comme SAP, Oracle ou encore Cegid, s'activent d'autres éditeurs dont l'americain Compiere.

L'éditeur franco-américain de logiciels d'aide à la décision Business Objects devrait passer sous giron allemand. Le numéro un mondial des progiciels, SAP, a annoncé son acquisition pour un montant de 42 euros par action, valorisant la société à 4,8 milliards d'euros. La transaction devrait être définitivement bouclée d'ici le premier trimestre 2008.

When IBM, Adobe, Oracle, Novell, SAP, or other proprietary companies release even a modicum of code, they get universal plaudits. When 100% open-source companies like Red Hat and MySQL rejig the way they release code (while still releasing it and fully complying with open-source licenses), they get tarred and feathered.
