Linked Internet UI | Nokia Research Center
We have developed a functional demo of our research UI concept that runs on a Nokia Maemo development device. It consists of a custom-built web runtime on top of QTWebKit, the Linked Internet UI Platform, written using HTML5, JavaScript, and a SQL database backend. The platform supports online and offline operation and is able to synchronize data with services for efficient offline use. Our current prototype supports Flickr, Ovi, Twitter, among others for demonstration and user evaluation purposes; and it can be extended to cover new views, content types, and services. The demo debuts at Nokia World 2009 in Stuttgart, Germany. The short video below shows its essential messages.

High Performance Web Sites :: Aptimize: realtime spriting and more
tracking Aptimize for about a year since they contacted me about their Website Accelerator. I was psyched to have them present at and sponsor Velocity. Website Accelerator changes web pages in real time and injects many of the performance best practices from my books, plus some others that aren’t in my books. It’s a server-side module that runs on Microsoft Sharepoint, ASP.NET, and Linux/Apache.

Joseph's Blog - RabbitMQ, AMQP gem, and EventMachine
RabbitMQ 1.6 has an option to set a pre-fetch limit. So we simply set the pre-fetch limit to 1, and our EventMachine loop runs nice and fast now. You'll want to tweak your pre-fetch limit depending on how long it takes to process each message. If you can churn through a hundred messages a second, you probably won't even notice this problem and the prefetching will help you, but if it takes you a few seconds (or minutes) per message, you'll wonder why things aren't popped off the queue for several minutes (or hours).

Cargo
Cargo is a web publishing (CMS) and community-building platform currently in development.
Cargo evolved out of the system that runs the SpaceCollective community. We found it remarkably successful and efficient in creating visual content on the web, placing a strong emphasis on design, layout, image quality and typography. Our goal is to dramatically increase the accessibility and exposure of creative individuals on the Internet, while aspiring to build a networked context that will contribute to the culture as a whole.

Wired 13.08: We Are the Web
And the most universal. By 2015, desktop operating systems will be largely irrelevant. The Web will be the only OS worth coding for. It won't matter what device you use, as long as it runs on the Web OS. You will reach the same distributed computer whether you log on via phone, PDA, laptop, or HDTV.
