by karlcow

What is the guiding principle to make an informed design decision regarding the direction of communication in such a replication scenario? The answer is separation of concerns with the goal of simplicity and avoiding unnecessary coupling. This leads to the question which of the systems should for which communication play the server role and which one should play the client role?

Python Package Index : roles 0.6.0

by karlcow

Library for Role based development.

Pythonic implementation of the DCI (Data Context Interaction) pattern (http://www.artima.com/articles/dci_vision.html).

The big difference with mixins is that this role is applied only to the subject instance, not to the subject class (alas, a new class is constructed).

Roles can be assigned and revoked. Multiple roles can be applied to an instance. Revocation can happen in any particular order.

The metaphor that I like to use when describing MVC to them is that of an orchestra. In it, the individual musicians are the model, the conductor is the controller and the audience is the view.

OpenURL : Helping you buy: link resolver tools.(Your guide to vendor product facts) | Article from Computers in Libraries | HighBeam Research

by decembre
To any library with an electronic collection of any significance, the Open URL link resolver has (or should) become an indispensable service for helping its users retrieve full text from citations. Although they are a relatively new technology (in library terms, at any rate), link resolvers arguably have become as important as the OPAC; they locate articles from A & I databases, strengthen the role of interlibrary loan, and enable metasearch. Since they are the glue that binds many disparate services together, link resolvers are quite difficult to shop for. To define what a good link resolver should be or should do is not unlike nailing JELL-O to the wall. There is an

Simple API for Cloud Application Services

by pac-recrutement

The Simple Cloud API is here to bring cloud technologies to PHP and the PHP philosophy to the cloud. With it, developers can start writing scalable and highly available applications that are still portable. If you're looking for code to start playing around with immediately, you'll find the first file storage, document storage, and simple queue interfaces with adapters for major cloud vendors here.

But this project is about more than just code. Zend has once again invited the open source community and software vendor of all sizes in to a dialogue that benefits all. And this time we're working with the companies that are leading the cloud revolution.

Habitable Polyhedron / Manuel Villa | ArchDaily

The project, meant for a family house back yard in the suburbs, aimed at designing a small park or opened area where the young parents and their newborn child would enjoy a independent space from day to day house activities, a space for reading, playing, etc. Having in mind this objective, and considering the usages of the space in the long term, it was proposed the project incorporated a small building to complement and support outside activities. That way he building would serve as a shelter for the child to share with his parents and, later on, as his own personal activities and hobbies setting.

About « Web Hooks

by parmentierf
Web hooks are user-defined callbacks over HTTP. They’re intended to, in a sense, “jailbreak” our web applications to become more extensible, customizable, and ultimately more useful. Conceptually, web applications only have a request-based “input” mechanism: web APIs. They lack an event-based output mechanism, and this is the role of web hooks. People talk about Unix pipes for the web, but they forget: pipes are based on standard input and standard output. Feeds are not a sufficient form of output for this, which is partly why Yahoo Pipes was not the game changer some people expected. Instead, we need adoption of a simple, real-time, event-driven mechanism, and web hooks seem to be the answer. Web hooks are bringing a new level of event-based programming to the web.

Developer Evangelist Handbook

by karlcow

This handbook will get you on the way to be a great developer evangelist for any product or company. Of course your approach needs tweaking for different markets and audiences - and in accordance with your own personality - but the main principles are the same for everybody and anywhere in the world.

Developer evangelism is a totally new field of work and the first hurdle you will encounter is people asking what a developer evangelist is and why any company would need a role like that.
