rsnapshot

by camel & 7 others
rsnapshot is a filesystem snapshot utility for making backups of local and remote systems. Using rsync and hard links, it is possible to keep multiple, full backups instantly available. The disk space required is just a little more than the space of one full backup, plus incrementals. Depending on your configuration, it is quite possible to set up in just a few minutes. Files can be restored by the users who own them, without the root user getting involved. There are no tapes to change, so once it's set up, your backups can happen automatically untouched by human hands. And because rsnapshot only keeps a fixed (but configurable) number of snapshots, the amount of disk space used will not continuously grow.

A GALLERY OF 35 ANTI-U.S. CHINESE POLITICAL CARTOONS (circa 1958-1960)

by karlcow

Presenting A GALLERY OF 35 ANTI-U.S. CHINESE POLITICAL CARTOONS (circa 1958-1960) Culled and restored from reviewing hundreds of Eastern newspaper pages and illustrations, this set of 35 images represents what we consider the best late 50s editorial cartoons (Manhua) from China and Indochina. Set during a time of escalating western imperialism, these images react against U.S. military actions in Laos and Vietnam, and represent a unique moment of political commentary. It seems to be a hidden history, too. It's with some pride that we indicate most of these comics have never before been re-published, and even fewer have ever been exhibited or documented for U.S. audiences. Enjoy - Ethan

Convertir système debian en Raid1

by lecyborg
Our intention is not to build a fail-safe system nor a HA-Linux. We are just using RAID-1 mirrored disks to make sure that the system can be restored easily if 1 disk crashes. The following has been tested only twice (hey, we've got other things to do). It did work for us, it might work for you. It might also make your rats go berserk or just blow your mind.

Run Knoppix from a USB device without rebooting | USB Pen Drive Linux

by Ithil
The following tutorial covers the process of running Knoppix persistently from a portable USB flash drive using Qemu from a Windows 98, XP or Vista host PC without ever rebooting. Most of your personal settings and changes are automatically saved back to the stick and restored at boot via the Persistence image. This is accomplished using Qemu emulation software in conjunction with a persistent virtual hard disk image file for saving and restoring changes

Network configuration files in Linux

by linuxmint (via)
Commands like route and ifconfig can set up a computer on the network. However, upon reboot, the configuration is lost. Although route and ifconfig properly configure the computer to connect to the network, they didn't change its permanent network configuration, which was restored at boot time.

McAfee False Positive

by misskitty4280
McAfee DAT file 4715 falsely identified legitimate, non-infected files as being infected with the W95/CTX virus. The faulty DAT file was released on Friday, March 10th. The corrected DAT, 4716, was released several hours later on the same date. Depending on the user's configuration of VirusScan, the falsely identified files may have been either quarantined or deleted. If deleted, the files should be restored from either a backup or a rollback point in System Restore. Quarantined files can be restored to their original locations by selecting "Restore" from the "Manage Quarantined Files" window. McAfee has provided some details of the false positive in DAT 4715, including a partial list of some files that may have been erroneously targeted by the scanner.

Transcript: Former Vice President Gore's Speech on Constitutional Issues

by multilinko (via)
As we begin this new year, the executive branch of our government has been caught eavesdropping on huge numbers of American citizens and has brazenly declared that it has the unilateral right to continue without regard to the established law enacted by Congress precisely to prevent such abuses. It is imperative that respect for the rule of law be restored in our country.

TheTechGuide Forum -> Networking 2 windows xp

by svartling
I restored my host computer and now I cannot get to folders in "My Network Places" although I can see them from both computers. The error message is Downstairs is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." This error message is on both computers. The host computer is a Windows XP Home operating system and the second computer is a Windows XP Professional operating system. The 2nd computer is named downstairs and the 1st (host) computer is named upstairs. I get the same error message on both computers; that is, the downstairs computer says "Upstairs is not accessible...... I am the administrator and I rebooted both computers and log in as the administrator. Any suggestions?

Social bookmarking traffic results

by newsniche
The results of the social bookmarking experiment I have been carrying out are materialising. There have been some surprising results and some results that have restored my faith in the browsing public. I have been pondering whether or not to release the results as I do not want the spammers to tarnish something that is still relatively pure. But as you can see I finally decided to go ahead and publish.
