Blogo Numericus -- Google Index as world heritage

by Neewok

Because it is our index. At least partly, because the content is ours. And I won’t deny that it is partly Google Inc. property too, as the manufacturer and operator of the index. But it’s partly ours as well, and that is a very important point to make.

Therefore, may be we can begin to consider the Google index as a common good shared between Google and all the mankind.

Chrome and Firefox 3.5 Memory Usage

by night.kame

Firefox 3.5 used the smallest amount of memory during its peak, it used the smallest amount of memory when all points were averaged, and it used the smallest amount of memory at the end of the experiment after all tabs were closed. Firefox 3.5 continues Firefox 3.0's legacy of being the most memory efficient browser in this style of experiment.

A noter le "in this kind of experiment".

How to Use Flash Video (FLV) Cue Points

by Spone & 1 other (via)
Video cue points can be used for all sorts of things in Flash. Typical uses involve triggering other activity, such as peripheral movie clips whose animations enhance the video content, or triggering text, such as closed captions. I’ve seen some developers in the Adobe forums even use a cue point to signal that a video clip has reached its end. Strictly speaking, cue points aren’t needed for that last goal (see “How to Determine the Completion of a Flash Video (FLV) File”), but it’s certainly a possible way to go. If you’re interested in cue points yourself, but don’t know where to begin, let’s dive in.

sfManagedCachePlugin | Recoursive

by Xavier Lacot (via)
The very point of caching is that it's faster and less resource intensive to deliver cached data than creating it on the fly. With existing cache solutions, when the cached data expires, it has to be refreshed while the user waits. In environments that rely heavily on caching, such behavior has the potential to create thread pileups and other cascading failure scenarios. This plugin introduces a cache manager : when an expired âge is called, then it is directly served from the cache, and then the cache gets asynchronously refreshed.

What are 2D Barcodes? « optional.is/required

by karlcow

The term “2D Barcode” is the name given to the next generation of the barcodes we are used to on everyday packaging and products. Before digging into 2D barcodes, we need to explain the history of 1D barcodes and how we arrived at this point. 1D barcodes are the traditional barcodes we see everyday, they are called one-dimensional because their pattern of thick and thin vertical bars is read in only one direction, from left to right.

Les Netocrates (1) : Tariq Krim, lider Massimo - Web 1,2,3 - ElectronLibre.info

by xibe & 1 other , 1 comment

Unboxing Web-Oriented Architecture: The 6 Aspects Of An Emergent Architectural Style

by night.kame

Transfer Methods. This is at the core of REST and ROA and is the foundation of Web-Oriented Architecture. You can read Roy Fielding's chapter on REST (he conceived of the approach originally) or you can just follow the simple guidelines here. At other times, protocols like BitTorrent can be used if the requirements warrant it, but these are exceptional scenarios that I will cover at some point in the future.

by Fulcanelli & 1 other (via)
