Networks, Crowds, and Markets: A Book by David Easley and Jon Kleinberg
Over the past decade there has been a growing public fascination with the complex "connectedness" of modern society. This connectedness is found in many incarnations: in the rapid growth of the Internet and the Web, in the ease with which global communication now takes place, and in the ability of news and information as well as epidemics and financial crises to spread around the world with surprising speed and intensity. These are phenomena that involve networks, incentives, and the aggregate behavior of groups of people; they are based on the links that connect us and the ways in which each of our decisions can have subtle consequences for the outcomes of everyone else.
Networks, Crowds, and Markets combines different scientific perspectives in its approach to understanding networks and behavior. Drawing on ideas from economics, sociology, computing and information science, and applied mathematics, it describes the emerging field of study that is growing at the interface of all these areas, addressing fundamental questions about how the social, economic, and technological worlds are connected.
The book is based on an inter-disciplinary course entitled Networks that we teach at Cornell. The book, like the course, is designed at the introductory undergraduate level with no formal prerequisites. To support deeper explorations, most of the chapters are supplemented with optional advanced sections.

Copyright Consultations - Copyright and You
Digital technology has evolved dramatically, changing the way Canadians work, live and engage locally and globally. The emergence of the Internet has blurred the line between creators, users, producers, and distributors of copyrighted works.
Canadian copyright law needs to be updated to give Canadian creators and consumers the tools they need to engage with confidence in the digital marketplace. These updates will also help foster creativity, innovation and economic growth.
The Government believes that Canadians themselves must be able to contribute if future updates are to be a true reflection of Canada’s interests. These nation-wide consultations are intended to provide all Canadians with a chance to voice their opinions on what is needed to make the system work, and to ensure that all perspectives are taken into account on copyright modernization.
You can access additional information about copyright in the “Support Material” box located in the right hand side of this page.

De la lutte des classes à l'expression des classes. Le journal définissant une éliteUser-created online culture isn't "mass culture," exactly; no single blog post gets as much exposure as, say, an episode of American Idol. But it's culture by the masses.

CCCB :: Exhibition In the Chinese city. Perspectives on the transmutations of an Empire - Ciutat i espai públic : Espai públic : Espai urbà : Transformació urbana, Cultura : Transformació cultural
For a decade now, China has been immersed in major processes of construction and destruction that have greatly modified its landscape. The exhibition will situate these changes in the country's historical and cultural continuum. It aims to present the reality of the city past and present in four of its dimensions: town planning, architecture, landscape and infrastructure. It will also be an opportunity to compare these realities with the Chinese and Western imaginaries, and with mechanisms of information or propaganda.
