heevaPlug development kit is a plug computing device that runs network-based software services that normally require a dedicated personal computer.  Featuring a 1.2GHz Marvell Sheeva CPU with 512 MB of flash memory and 512 MB of DDR2, the SheevaPlug development kit provides ample performance and resources to develop or port almost any application.  Multiple Linux distributions are available for the platform, and software is supported in an open source model.  Network connectivity is via Gigabit Ethernet; peripheral devices can be connected using USB2.0.

How to Use Flash Video (FLV) Cue Points

by Spone & 1 other (via)
Video cue points can be used for all sorts of things in Flash. Typical uses involve triggering other activity, such as peripheral movie clips whose animations enhance the video content, or triggering text, such as closed captions. I’ve seen some developers in the Adobe forums even use a cue point to signal that a video clip has reached its end. Strictly speaking, cue points aren’t needed for that last goal (see “How to Determine the Completion of a Flash Video (FLV) File”), but it’s certainly a possible way to go. If you’re interested in cue points yourself, but don’t know where to begin, let’s dive in.

OCZ Technology | Products | OCZ Peripherals | nia - Neural Impulse Actuator

by oqdbpo
OCZ’s Neural Impulse Actuator (nia) marks a new era in gaming. Rather than being a substitute for a mouse, the nia is a pioneering new peripheral to be used in conjunction with your mouse for a more immersive gaming experience. The nia is compatible with any PC game using keyboard input… past, present, or future. Predefined profiles included with the software allow the gamer to develop their own nia—memory to launch the desired behavior of their character and shoot with the “blink of an eye”, without lifting a finger.

Wacom Cintiq 12WX LCD Pen Tablet Video Review (Verdict: Simply Amazing) UPDATED

by sbrothier
Here's the video review for the new Wacom Cintiq 12WX, a tablet that allows you to draw directly on the screen with extreme precision, great feel and amazing results (even with butter fingers like mine). The Cintiq 12WX is probably the best peripheral I have ever tried. If you are not a professional illustrator or photographer, you may want to get one. If you are pro, however, you will be wondering why have you been waiting for so long for this 12" wonder.

Journal et lampe !

by karlcow

For a quick demo project, I created a browser that lets me look through historic newspaper articles about séances from the online Globe and Mail archive. While browsing the stories from a particular time period, Spöka flashes gently in the background, faster if there are a lot of them, slower if not. It provides a nice peripheral feel for the intensity of Spiritualist activity at that point in time.

Hachoir (Hachoir allows you to "browse" any binary stream)

by pvergain & 2 others
Hachoir is a Python library that allows to view and edit a binary stream field by field. In other words, Hachoir allows you to "browse" any binary stream just like you browse directories and files. A file is split in a tree of fields, where the smallest field is just one bit. There are other fields types: integers, strings, bits, padding types, floats, etc. Hachoir is the French word for a meat grinder (meat mincer), which is used by butchers to divide meat into long tubes; Hachoir is used by computer butchers to divide binary files into fields. Hachoir is composed of the parser core (hachoir-core), various file format parsers (hachoir-parser), and other peripheral programs. For example, you can use hachoir-metadata to extract information from your favourite photos or videos. Hachoir also allows you to edit files (of supported formats) without the original (often proprietary) program that was used to create them. LATEST VERSIONS: hachoir-core 1.0.1, hachoir-parser 1.0, hachoir-metadata 1.0.1, hachoir-regex 1.0.2, hachoir-urwid 1.0.1, hachoir-subfile 0.5.2, hachoir-wx 0.1.2

Pavatar - Recognize me!

by parmentierf & 9 others (via)
The Personal Avatar (aka Pavatar) is a personal picture hosted on your webspace which is then used by websites to display whenever referring to content provided by YOU, the user. An example would be if you made a comment or a site posting where an avatar is required. This way, delivering your Personal Avatar is peripheral and can be (nearly) anonymous. This option inhibits companies from collecting personal information about your habits on the web.

availabot.mp4 (video/mp4 Object)

by Neewok (via)
"Availabot is a physical representation of presence in Instant Messenger applications. Availabot plugs into your computer by USB, stands to attention when your chat buddy comes online, and falls down when they go away. It’s a presence-aware, peripheral-vision USB toy… and because the puppets are made in small numbers on a rapid-prototyping machine, it can look just like you."

the::unwired - CONCEPT: IXI PMG connects your devices with the GSM/GPRS network

by oseres (via)
CONCEPT: IXI PMG connects your devices with the GSM/GPRS network Posted by Arne Hess - at Wednesday, 12.03.03 - 13:03:00 CET under 5 - Thoughts - Viewed 381x When I was in Cannes some weeks ago, I've joined a presentation by Ixi Mobile about their PMG (Personal Mobile Gateway) which is a pretty fascinating concept, based on Bluetooth. In the center is the Ixi-Connect, which connects on one hand with the GSM/GPRS network and on the other hand with all kind of Bluetooth enabled devices - from a telephone receiver which can be used like a normal cell phone but doesn't include the wireless radio to digital cameras (I even saw a working high-resolution prototype from Sony which connected to the Ixi-Core) to pens, chat boards or whatever is connectable. The chat board below was connected to MSN IM and you could use it for wireless chatting, but also SMS is supported. The pen recorded shot voice notes and send them as E-Mail to any recipient in the world. Right beside the pen you see the Ixi-Connect module which is pretty small and light. A great and pretty useful component are the wireless cameras. You can predefine an E-Mail address, snap a picture and this is sent automatically to the predefined E-Mail address. As I wrote above, this will works even with high-resolution cameras. Today, Samsung announced on CeBIT it's PMG support. Samsung Introduces the Worlds First PMG (Personal Mobile Gateway) Phone at CeBIT Samsung Electronics and IXI Mobile to Collaborate on Innovative Mobile Devices CeBIT, Hanover, Germany - March 12, 2003 - Samsung Electronics and IXI Mobile, Inc. today announced that Samsung has incorporated Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG) technology into a new breed of Samsung wireless phones and peripheral devices by licensing IXI software. Samsung will exhibit a PMG Phone as well as other peripherals designed-for-PMG products at CeBIT in Hall 26, Booth 68. The Samsung SGH-X410, the worlds first PMG Phone, is a tri-band GSM/GPRS with 65k colors, Bluetooth and 40 polyphonic ring tones. "Samsung, as a mobile communications trend-setter, offers a wide variety of products designed to be at the center of peoples lives both in their homes and when they are mobile," said Amit Haller, President and CEO of IXI Mobile. "As the inventor and pioneer of the PMG, we are very pleased to be working with Samsung to enable the introduction of new and innovative wireless products that greatly enhance the users mobile experience." The PMG is the bridge between the mobile and the Personal Area Networks (PAN), combining cellular and short distance wireless with micro-router and micro-server functionalities. It is the point of connection between the wireless network and the new category of affordable and best-of-breed mobile devices. The PMG enables a new set of innovative, optimized Sleek Devices (e.g. watches, pens, phones, messaging terminals, gaming devices, cameras) that deliver a superior experience, while still focused on fashion and budget. Final Conclusion The Ixi concept is a pretty interesting one as as they mentioned to me on 3GSM Congress, it's not a show case only but will become reality. Getting Samsung on board now with handset support might be an important step for them! Overall I was impressed about the options what to connect and best of all, according to the Bluetooth standard, you can connect several devices simultaneously.
