Turn Twitter Into Your Personal Assistant

by karlcow

The combination of social networking with public messaging, link posting, and subscriptions leads to impressive synergy effects, but there is also the drawback of information overload, information loss, distraction, and content redundancy.

BRmovie.com: BR FAQ: Did Blade Runner influence cyberpunk?

by night.kame (via)

"Years later, I was having lunch with Ridley, and when the conversation turned to inspiration, we were both very clear about our debt to the Metal Hurlant [the original Heavy Metal magazine] school of the '70s--Moebius and the others. But it was also obvious that Scott understood the importance of information density to perceptual overload. When Blade Runner works best, it induces a lyrical sort of information sickness, that quintessentially postmodern cocktail of ecstasy and dread. It was what cyberpunk was supposed to be all about."

discipline and punish

by karlcow

Perhaps some of the problem with information overload is that while there's a great many channels for producing information there's only very few channels for consuming information.

httperf

by rodo & 5 others
Httperf is a tool for measuring web server performance. It provides a flexible facility for generating various HTTP workloads and for measuring server performance. The focus of httperf is not on implementing one particular benchmark but on providing a robust, high-performance tool that facilitates the construction of both micro- and macro-level benchmarks. The three distinguishing characteristics of httperf are its robustness, which includes the ability to generate and sustain server overload, support for the HTTP/1.1 and SSL protocols, and its extensibility to new workload generators and performance measurements.

Mento

by srcmax & 2 others
A bunch of services are really good for saving links so that you'll find them again. But they're not so great for telling friends or co-workers about a link. Mento is for sharing links with friends: Smarter than email overload, more permanent than IM, and always just one click away.

Fimoculous.com - misc - Best Blogs of 2007 That You (Maybe) Aren't Reading

by springnet
Last year I decided to put on twist on my annual "best blogs" post [2002, 2003, 2004] by taking a turn toward the obscure. it makes little sense to write a post arguing that Huffington Post is better or worse than DailyKos -- or Cute Overload.
