San Diego museum excludes dissenting scholars from Dead Sea Scrolls lecture series

by Critical Reader
It appears that the San Diego Natural History Museum is getting ready to present a biased, distorted account of current scholarship in its upcoming Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. The exhibit's curator, Dr. Risa Levitt Kohn, has decided to ignore recent news accounts and exclude any opponents of the old theory of Scroll origins from the Museum's lecture series, thereby violating the ethical standards of the American Association of Museums.

Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background

by jasontromm 1 comment (via)
Are the American people ready for an elected president who was educated in a Madrassa as a young boy and has not been forthcoming about his Muslim heritage? This is the question Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s camp is asking about Sen. Barack Obama. An investigation of Mr. Obama by political opponents within the Democratic Party has discovered that Mr. Obama was raised as a Muslim by his stepfather in Indonesia. Sources close to the background check, which has not yet been released, said Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia.

Fundraising Foolishness

by jasontromm
This week, more than two months after President Bush nominated him, the Senate will finally vote on Judge Samuel Alito’s elevation to the Supreme Court. In a final, all-too-typical move, the vote was put off a week at the behest of Alito’s opponents. Why? Nobody seriously expects another week to make a difference. With a few exceptions, senators probably knew how they were going to vote before the hearings. So, why put off the vote?

NARAL's slander of John Roberts helps his confirmation

by jasontromm
In addition to his ambiguous record as a lawyer and judge, Supreme Court nominee John Roberts has the benefit of opponents who seem determined to discredit themselves and guarantee his confirmation. This self-destructive impulse is epitomized by NARAL Pro-Choice America's despicable TV ad linking Roberts to "violent fringe groups."
