OpenSocial - Atlassian

by karlcow & 1 other

Sure, OpenSocial has mostly focused on consumery stuff — Ning, MySpace, Orkut — and that's cool, but it has great potential behind the firewall. Atlassian is leading the charge here, using OpenSocial to help our products exchange data and components, and opening the door to new types of interoperability between enterprise and consumer systems.

How We Built Britain opening title sequence | The Art of the Title Sequence

by karlcow

A tangle of utility in both architecture and typography offers a fascinatingly structured title sequence for the BBC’s “How We Built Britain” that bespeaks an acquisitive England. The artificial monuments of type seem proportionally sound, the final title card an achievement of engineering.

FKDL Metro Monde opening « Since - Upian - Artspace

by sbrothier & 1 other
Self taught artist, Frank Duval, aka FKDL, is an adept of collage in all its forms since 1997 : art scotch, paintings, murals, street art… In 2006, he creates a family of 20 black voluptuous silhouettes on the walls of Paris, before taking them to New-York, Berlin, London, Barcelona, Turin… Once they’re adorned with bits from vintage magazines, his figures, with their characteristic colored backgrounds and their happy body language, make FKDL a unique signature in the universe of street art.

The Hierarchy Of Digital Distractions | Information Is Beautiful

by ycc2106
So, if you get a new msg on Facebook, but your landline rings, you’ll take the landline call. You might have a spasmodic moment of ‘uh? wadd I do’. But, usually, you’ll take the call. Similarly, if you get a new SMS whilst opening a new online dating message, you’ll be hard pressed not to read that SMS. It’ll take a great force of will. You may attempt to do both simultaneously. But if you really observe yourself closely, one will take priority – even if it’s only by milliseconds. The SMS will win your attention.

MIT Media Lab: Reality Mining

by karlcow & 1 other

Reality Mining defines the collection of machine-sensed environmental data pertaining to human social behavior. This new paradigm of data mining makes possible the modeling of conversation context, proximity sensing, and temporospatial location throughout large communities of individuals. Mobile phones (and similarly innocuous devices) are used for data collection, opening social network analysis to new methods of empirical stochastic modeling.

The original Reality Mining experiment is one of the largest mobile phone projects attempted in academia. Our research agenda takes advantage of the increasingly widespread use of mobile phones to provide insight into the dynamics of both individual and group behavior. By leveraging recent advances in machine learning we are building generative models that can be used to predict what a single user will do next, as well as model behavior of large organizations.

Opening up conversation on browser interrogation tools with Browser Memory Tool Prototype on Dion Almaer's Blog

by oseres
Do you sometimes feel like the browser is a black box? We are building richer and richer applications on the Web platform and this means that developers are running up against new issues to debug and test. We feel like it is a great time to develop new tools that afford you the ability to look into the runtime to hopefully help you find a bug, or allow you to keep your application as responsive as possible. Today we want to start a conversation about some of our thinking, with the hope that you will join in. We have been taking a hard look at the tools landscape, and here is a presentation that gives you an idea of our thinking:
