This site is an online resource of the 1972 Munich Olympics. It showcases the visual identity of the Munich Olympics through Otl Aicher and his teams’ iconic designs.
They are a source of inspiration that will be shown here in a comprehensive fashion.
_One of the cultural mile-stones in the field of visual communication, the design of the XXth Olympiad was so successful that it articulated to multi-lingual and mutli-cultural audiences which had never been done so well before. The pictogram system which was devised by Aicher and his team for the games was the perfect example of simplistic information design and has now become the universal standard.

This venture is doomed to fail! WMV? Silverlight? Are you kidding? Isn't it about time for Netflix to grow up?
NBC was paid by Microsoft to use this technology for the '08 Olympics - NBC abandoned the technology as soon as Olympics were over. MLB used Silverlight for the same reason - Microsoft subsidized the project. Did you read the news last week? MLB is abandoning Silverlight for 2009 season in favor of Flash.
Netflix is marrying itself to yet another also-ran technology from Microsoft. This should be a fun train wreck to watch!

Peter Saville said “I find it a bit cheesy. Those rings don’t sit happily within that angular form and the typographic expression of London is a little insecure and apologetic. On the other hand, it’s incredibly noticable, brave and confrontational. Designs which are effective are abrasive on our sensibilities initially, that is how they work. It doesn’t have to be nice because they are familiar, while a great design forges a new aesthetic. It’s real job is to be a catalyst for awareness of the Olympics and it’s doing that already”.
