Introducing Typekit « The Typekit Blog

by Spone & 2 others
We’ve been working with foundries to develop a consistent web-only font linking license. We’ve built a technology platform that lets us to host both free and commercial fonts in a way that is incredibly fast, smoothes out differences in how browsers handle type, and offers the level of protection that type designers need without resorting to annoying and ineffective DRM. As a Typekit user, you’ll have access to our library of high-quality fonts. Just add a line of JavaScript to your markup, tell us what fonts you want to use, and then craft your pages the way you always have. Except now you’ll be able to use real fonts. This really is going to change web design. We’ll be launching this summer with a great collection of beautiful and hardworking typefaces. We’ll offer a free version of the service to get you started, and a low-cost way to grow from there. A truly scalable professional version will follow soon after.

Restaurants, Hotels, Travel and Vacations - Ruba.com

by Regis (via)
Travel guides are a dime a dozen on the web. But for the most part, they’re not very conducive to really exploring - it’s not much fun to click through various guides to get a feel for where you’d like to visit, because each guide is loaded with a wall of text. Ruba, a new travel site that launches today, is looking to offer users a way to visually browse through cities and their attractions around the world, offering photo-rich guides and an emphasis on making it easy to quickly discover new locations.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy

by tadeufilippini (via)
1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed. 2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. 3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades). 4. Conclude with (three times): Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. In 1933, God gave Sister Faustina a striking vision of His Mercy, Sister tells us: "I saw a great light, with God the Father in the midst of it. Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus nailed to the Cross and in such a way that God, wanting to look upon the earth, had to look through Our Lord's wounds and I understood that God blessed the earth for the sake of Jesus." Of another vision on Sept. 13, 1935, she writes: "I saw an Angel, the executor of God's wrath... about to strike the earth...I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words which I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way, I saw the Angel's helplessness, and he could not carry out the just punishment...." The following day an inner voice taught her to say this prayer on ordinary rosary beads: "First say one 'Our Father', 'Hail Mary', and 'I believe'. Then on the large beads say the following words: 'Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.' On the smaller beads you are to say the following words: 'For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.' In conclusion you are to say these words three times: 'Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world'. Jesus said later to Sister Faustina: "Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this Chaplet even once, will receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy...." "....When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person not as the just judge but as the Merciful Savior".

Computerworld > Why Opera isn’t planning to go open source

by greut

We support open source in that we offer a better browser for Linux, Opera CTO Hakon Wium Lie told me in a recent meeting at the InfoWorld offices. But we haven’t found a business model that allows us to go fully open source.

Something old, but I recently talked with Batiste about this : How would Opera be if they had go Open Source before Firefox got (relatively) huge?

GoodRelations: An ontology for linking product descriptions and business entities on the Web

by karlcow

GoodRelations is a lightweight ontology for annotating offerings on the Web. It is to our knowledge the first non-toy vocabulary for describing the types of goods and terms and conditions of items and services offered on the Web. The GoodRelations ontology complements products and services ontologies, like eClassOWL, by providing the vocabulary for expressing things like

that a particular Web site describes an offer to sell cellphones of a certain make and model at a certain price,

that a pianohouse offers maintenance for pianos that weigh less than 150 kg,

or that a car rental company leases out cars of a certain make and model from a particular set of branches across the country.

ThinkGeek :: Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella

by sbrothier
The rain falls softly. The samurai draws his sword. Look, an umbrella. Either we just made it up, or that Haiku dates to around the 14th century. It is a little known fact that Samurai also carried umbrellas. Much as they later had to disguise their swords as canes, so they disguised their umbrellas as swords. In fact, there was one skilled umbrella maker who all the Samurai relied on for their Sword Handle Umbrellas. His name has been buried in the sands of time, but his plans have been preserved. And now, it is with great pleasure that we offer to you, the Samurai Sword Handle Umbrella.

Bastard Life - Straight, bi, or gay—this is the sex & relationships site for all of us.

by gregg & 2 others
Love, lust, like—it really doesn't matter. We are men, and we hunger for the same thing: a connection, a score, a win. Some are short and sweet; others are tough and bitter. Either way, we walk the long road home, collecting many stories, but not enough advice, or friends, to dispel the myths, or dilute the boundaries, of the "game." We wake up, maybe decades later, telling someone younger the ways of things—with a grin that impresses, but really conceals a wish we knew then what we do now. Sure we have wives, or girlfriends, or boyfriends—or husbands. All told, there's a bastard in all of us, but managing the vice of manhood is the goal we offer, the manifesto we push.

Let's talk about Python 3.0

by karlcow

Of course, this is causing some people to ask whether it was a good idea; all other things being equal, it’s better to maintain compatibility than to break it, and if the break doesn’t seem to offer anything really major or impressive over the previous compatible version, then it’s natural to ask what, exactly, made this necessary. Jens Afke has rather notably posted some thoughts along those lines, and this post is an attempt to respond and explain, as clearly as I can, why I think Python 3.0 is and will be a good thing even though it’ll create a staggering amount of work for me, my co-workers and my friends and colleagues (since I deal with two large Python 2.x codebases on a daily basis, the migration is not going to be simple or short for me).

Creating snapshots in Xen with Linux commands

by camel
A virtual machine snapshot is a great feature, freezing the current state of a virtual machine. Unfortunately, open source Xen doesn't offer support for snapshots -- but Linux does. Since open source Xen always uses Linux as its privileged domain, you can use Linux commands to create snapshots.

Compulsion

by gregg & 3 others
Compulsion is a simple, easy to use tool that makes video clickable. The clicks become links that turn the video into an entire interactive universe of your design. You can offer or sell those links for click and shop, gossip, trivia, news, music, more video, or anything you can imagine. Compulsion does not alter the original movie file, and can be used before or after your video is published. If you want to add or change links later, no problem.
