Coding from Scratch: A Conversation with Virtual Reality Pioneer Jaron Lanier, Part One
answer Right. And it results in a type of error that doesn't teach you anything. You have chaotic errors where all you can say is, "Boy, this was really screwed up, and I guess I need to go in and go through the whole thing and fix it." You don't have errors that are proportionate to the source of the error. And that means you can never have any sense of gradual evolution or approximate systems. So, the real difference between the current idea of software, which is protocol adherence, and the idea I'm discussing, pattern recognition, has to do with the kinds of errors we're creating. We need a system in which errors are more often proportional to the source of the error.
Inside Google Books: Earth viewed from books
show the Earth viewed from books, where individual mentions of locations in books combine to yield another interpretation of the globe. The intensity of each pixel is proportional to the number of times the location at a given set of coordinates is mentioned across all of the books in Google Books Search.
Spoke-o-dometer Overview - Open Source Urbanism
This project involves creating a Persistence Of Vision (POV) device for mounting on a bike wheel. There are a few of these devices already on the market (and we've bought a couple to experiment with); this project differs in that it combines a basic bike meter with the POV readout. The device will display speed and total distance travelled. Unlike standard bike computers, this information isn't displayed for the cyclist but broadcast to other people in the street. By making this information public we give the cyclist's activities greater 'visibility' within the urban environment.
DAN METH - My Trilogy Meter
Frankly I’m surprised by how many sequels were better than the original. And I’m not surprised that the 3rd movie is never the best.

“Can you remember where you were when John F. Kennedy was shot? What you were doing when you heard the news?” For my parents’ generation, the assassination of JFK was such a major event that nearly everyone of their age can answer these questions with “Yes”. A moment in history that is anchored to collective feelings of shock, loss and mourning.

The EnerJar is an easy-to-build device that accurately measures the power draw of electrical appliances. The user plugs the EnerJar into any three-prong wall outlet, and measures a device by plugging it into the outlet on the EnerJar. It is our goal that users of the power meter will gain an understanding of power draw and use this knowledge to effectively reduce their electricity use.
