once more, with feeling

by blackgoldfish
"love how time seems to move differently at the beach. how i can sit on the beach for hours and the day seems to melt by like honey. how i can spend an entire day looking out over that ocean, laying in that sand, eating sandwiches smushed from the cooler, painting, swimming, gathering rocks (don't get me started on the beach rocks!), walking, talking, napping, reading, looking out at the ocean some more, and suddenly the sun is starting to set and the day has gone by in what feels like an instant. i love that. all of it."

One Floor Up: Subprime

by karlcow

Mike Winkelman of Beeple has created an animated editorial on over-consumption. His short video features a spinning house being upgraded, expanded, and refurnished over and over again. The rotating and rebuilding visuals are completely captivating. The whole thing makes you question your own need vs want, consumer self. I will even, just this once, forgive them their isometric ways (perspective people, PERSPECTIVE).

The Art of the Title Sequence

by e_D_D_y & 11 others
Remember when your heart sank just a little when you realized the Pink Panther movie wasn’t a cartoon? Then, only a few years later, seeing Edward Gorey’s eerily fantastic opening to “Mystery!” capped with Vincent Price’s name on a headstone had your head spinning at the thought of the kind of stories those etchings could tell…if only the show was based on those illustrations. Well, we want to see more of that. So watch and remember and create. And if you’ve got something to contribute, send it along.

Oreo Truffles

by blackgoldfish
1 package oreo cookies (divided… use cookie including the cream center) 1 8oz. package cream cheese (softened) white chocolate bark 1. Finely crush 7 cookies in a food processor or place them in a ziploc bag and crush into a fine consistency. Reserve for later. 2. Crush remaining cookies and stir in softened cream cheese. Use the back of a large spoon to help mash the two together. 3. Roll the mixture into 1" balls and place on wax paper covered cookie sheet. 4. Melt chocolate as directed on the package and then dip balls into chocolate, tap off extra and set aside on wax paper covered cookie sheet to dry. You can sprinkle the tops with the 7 crushed cookies for decoration. (I usually eat mine before they make it to this stage.) 5. Once dry, refrigerate and enjoy! Makes about 36 truffles.

spinning mind

by cascamorto
Description: the ancient Yoga technique of Tratak [fixed gazing] stops the activity of the mind. when the eyes are completely fixed, the mind is completely stilled. focus your concentration completely on one of the dark points, and see for yourself.... btw it is excellent to use this [fixed gazing] to still the mind's activity within a silent, no-thought closed-eye meditation, as if looking out through the eyelids at an imaginary fixed point. see the link entitled "Antar Tratak Meditation and Drishti Yoga" http://www.scribd.com/doc/200534/Anta r-Tratak-Meditation-and-Drishti-Yoga http://www.scribd.com/doc/230810/Medi tating-on-the-Inner-Light-and-the-Inner -Sound (less)

Samurai Baka Funny T-Shirt - Tees My Body

by lupin26
This shirt was inspired by my brick mason cousin. The company he works for was installing brick on a strip mall that rents to a post office, party supply store, and a Japanese gift shop. Anyway, my doofus cuz accidentally stepped in a wheelbarrow full of mortar with his new timberlands and was so pissed he began screaming while spinning a shovel above his head like a helicopter. Well, he eventually lost grip and the shovel flew right through the Japanese store window. The owner came out yelling and started to chase him holding an aluminum samurai sword, but luckily my cousin managed to lock himself in a portalet where the Japanese guy waited for him for like 2 hours. Finally the store owner gave up, but before he left he snarled through the portalet ventand whispered “baka”.

The Flash Blog » AS3 Sound Spectrum Contest Results!!

by sbrothier & 1 other (via)
There were so many great entries in this contest and deciding on a winner was hard! After much deliberation and help from the great group of mods at the GTAL forums, I’m officially declaring the winner to be trioptic with his fullscreen masterpeice! It has such a cool feel to it and is kind of like watching a painting melt. I love the soundtrack too! Trioptic will be receiving a 6-month Premium subscription to the Lynda.com Online Training Library.

Merging TurboGears and Pylons , Zope

by pvergain
It seems likely that TurboGears and Pylons will merge. This looks like a good thing. ... It’s conceivable, it was definitely discussed a few times as well. It wouldn’t be so much a merger in any sense, as more of a coalescing of common parts. –Ben Bangert (On the Pylons mailing list) So, yes we did spend quite a bit of time talking about this at PyCon. And yes the word merger was used, but if you’re looking for some kind of big bang switchover, I think you’ll be disappointed. From my perspective, the philosophical approach behind all of our discussions has been “The more we can share parts the better.” But we all have taken it one step further — were we have different ideas about how things should be done, we need to weigh the relative merits of maintaining those differences against what those differences cost us. In particular I’m thinking about the cost in terms of mantaining: * separate libraries * separate documentation efforts * separate mailing lists * separate bug tracking systems * decreased visibility in the wider web marketplace * and ultimately separate user communities. .... Surprisingly enough, this is also something we have in common with the Zope guys, who have created a lot of great stuff that none of us got to use because it was too tightly integrated with the Zope core. They have been spinning out components pretty regularly for the last couple of years, and we want to work together with them more. Obviously, we won’t merge with Zope, but I hope that we can work with them in lots of interesting ways to move the state of Python web development forward. I for one would like to have access to their Transaction manager for multi-database transactions, and I worked a bit with Zope guys last week on integrating Tosca Widgets into their Forms system. What I want is for there to be diversity where there are real differences, and unity where those differences don’t matter. We don’t want to limit either framework, but we don’t want to have pointless duplication of effort either. .... Or, if we’re smart enough, creative enough, and and flexible enough, we may end up as one framework. To quote a line from Terminator 2 “The future is not yet set. The future is what we make it.“ ....
