WordPress › Post Templates « WordPress Plugins

by mozkart (via)
It happens quite often that a blogger publishes posts or static pages on a regular basis which have the same structure. Think about for example a "picture of the day" daily post. With current wordpress state, we need to spend a lot of time doing copy/paste between posts instead of actually writing content. All the instructions for installation, the support forums, etc. can be found on the plugin home page. IMPORTANT: LICENSE CHANGE Since version 4.0.0, the plugin has become a commercial plugin. It can be ordered (for cheap) on the plugin home page. Version 3.4.x will remain available for download for free on the WordPress plugin repository. No further development will be made on this version.

A Thanksgiving Gift – 7 Days of Source Code | blprnt.blg

by karlcow

When it comes to releasing source code, I’ve always been torn. I really believe in the philosophy of open source, but I’m intimidated by putting my code out there for everyone to see. Underneath it all, I’m probably scared of being exposed as some kind of a charlatan (”You call that programming?”). So, to pre-empt that possibility, I’ll start by saying this: I’m not a great programmer. My code is clean and fairly well-structured, but don’t expect to find any particularly advanced code wizardry or complicated mathematics. I do, however, think that the projects that I’ll be sharing over the week contain some good ideas, and a lot of helpful techniques. Hopefully you’ll find one or all of them useful.

SystemRescueCd

by m.meixide & 7 others (via)
SystemRescueCd is a Linux system rescue disk available as a bootable CD-ROM or USB stick for administrating or repairing your system and data after a crash. It aims to provide an easy way to carry out admin tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk. It comes with a lot of linux software such as system tools (parted, partimage, fstools, ...) and basic tools (editors, midnight commander, network tools). It requires no installation since you just have to boot on the CD-ROM. It can be used to perform admin tasks on both linux servers, linux desktops or windows boxes. The kernel supports most of the important file systems (ext2/ext3/ext4, reiserfs, reiser4, btrfs, xfs, jfs, vfat, ntfs, iso9660), as well as network filesystems (samba and nfs).

Slow Photoshop? A solution. | Hoefler & Frere-Jones

by sbrothier
Intermittently, Photoshop will start taking EXTRAORDINARY amounts of time to open files, regardless of their size. This problem has persisted from CS2 to CS3, and from a PowerPC to an Intel Mac. The problem is intermittent, seeming to go in long cycles (a few months at a clip), but when it strikes, a 2k file -- or a 100mb one, curiously -- will take upwards of two minutes to open. Also curiously, an open file can be saved and saved again without any performance hit. But saving a new file creates the lag as well, especially loathsome if you're using "Save for Web" a lot.

Google Acquires reCAPTCHA

by karlcow

ReCaptcha is a troy horse. Yes indeed it can help to improve bad digitization… but a lot better than that it is a way for Google to know what has been freshly commented on the Web. It helps Google to come back in the run for fresh information won by twitter so far.

Each time someone comments on a blog, ReCaptcha is like a ping for GoogleBot. A human just commented on this blog. Come here to index.

Case Study: NPR.org — AIGA | the professional association for design

We learned a lot through experimentation with a working prototype; we had a staging server set up that mirrored the actual site and was pulling from live databases. This enabled editors to publish actual content via the prototype, allowing us to identify bugs in the design and editorial workflows before launch.

Here’s an attempt to clear up some of the fog.

World of Warcraft / The Burning Crusade

by access2
World of Warcraft is a very popular MMORPG and the Burning Crusade is their first expansion module. This page contains links to the Blizzard Entertainment FAQ pages in Europe (The U.S. pages are generally bogged down by excessive traffic. ) It has recieved a lot of traffic, but absolutely NO sales, so there will be no Wrath of the Lich King "lens" from me.
