Yahoo WOEID, Flickr shapefiles - GeoNames | Google Groups

by karlcow

Yahoo! has released their WOEID names/relationship database as CC-

BY-3.0:

http://www.ygeoblog.com/2009/05/announcing-geoplanet-data/

The GeoPlanet Data does not contain any coordinate information, though

Flickr has also released a set of shapefiles as CC0, derived from WOEID

lat/lon geotagged photos:

http://code.flickr.com/blog/2009/05/21/flickr-shapefiles-public-datas...

This seems of interest to GeoNames. It could be cool to have a mapping

of GNIS identifiers to WOEIDs. Would that be within the mission of

GeoNames?

OilCan: Greasemonkey on steroids for Android

by karlcow

OilCan inserts some powerful buttons into normal websites, and that power comes from Android intents. We didn't write a barcode scanner or the radar app into OilCan, but using intents we can launch those apps with parameters. We can request the Barcode Scanner app to scan something and return the code to us, or launch the Radar app with a specific lat/lon.

Encoding polylines for Google Maps

by hobbes & 2 others (via)
If you want to display complicated path data on a Google Map, the most efficient way to do so is with an encoded polyline or polygon. * Encoding form: Convert path data to the encoded format. Can generate code or a map. * Point and click: A Google Map containing a point and click interface to the encoding algorithm. * Decoder: Decode an encoded point string to obtain a sequence of lat/lng values.

Red Hot Chili Peppers zagrają w lipcu w Chorzowie

by jacek
Jeśli się potwierdzą, to Stadion Śląski czeka w czerwcu i lipcu prawdziwy najazd miłośników rocka (13 czerwca zagra tu Pearl Jam, 21 czerwca Genesis, kilkanaście dni później "Peppersi"). Red Hot Chili Peppers to klasyka światowego rocka. Kalifornijska grupa pierwszy album wydała w 1984 r., jej ostatnie wydawnictwo to ubiegłoroczny podwójny album "Stadium Arcadium". Wielka kariera zespołu zaczęła się na początku lat 90., dzięki hitowej balladzie "Under The Bridge".
