four

by blackgoldfish
Today, my baby, you turn four. When did this happen? Was it not just yesterday that I had to put you inside my coat to keep you warm? Now look at you! Almost as tall as your sister with just as much spunk. Happy Birthday my punkin. What four is looking like so far: You pronounce your Rs as if you lived in Boston your whole life- A feather is a featheh. You sing from dawn to dusk- singsong monologues of your life. You eat a peanut butter sandwich every single day. You wake up hungry and must immediately eat a granola bar or your world collapses. You love coffee Your favorite color is blue You swing so high that I have to hold in my own concern because I see how much you need to do it. When you get mad, I suggest people step away, as you get a bit ferocious. You will brush my hair four an hour straight, and therefore I'll not ever cut it. You like to get your back lightly scratched, just like Mama. Happy Birthday, my sweet girl. Every day with you is a treasure and a surprise. I love you.

Android barcode scanner in 6 lines of Python code

by karlcow

After my last video about using a barcode scanner to add and search books in your library, I was feeling pretty happy. Bar code scanners are pretty cheap–mine cost about $65. But then Google released the Android Scripting Environment (ASE) and it turns out that you don’t even need a bar code scanner. Instead, you can use an Android phone such as the G1.

Just as a proof-of-concept, here’s a barcode scanner written in six lines of Python code:

Enter bookmark tags... you can add tags to bookmarks to find them easily. Why not tag bookmarks with "notawesome", then somehow hide those from the awesome bar search?

Geekmonkey userscript injector

by ycc2106
Userscripts are great, but not everyone can use them. If you can, get and add Greasemonkey. Safari has CreamMonkey or PithHelmet, and Opera has userscript support built in. But what if you are using Camino? Or Internet Exploder? For these people, I introduce the GeekMonkey userscript injector. Simply drag this bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar, and click on it while on any page that has a userscript on it. Any userscripts will automatically be turned into bookmarklets, which you can click anywhere you want.

Queriac. All our quicksearches are belong to us.

by ycc2106
Queriac allows you to manage your quicksearches, shortcuts, and bookmarklets by taking them out of your browser profile and onto the web, making them portable, taggable, shareable, and generally easier to manage. Drawing from the concept of Yubnub and extending it in the spirit of del.icio.us, Queriac effectively turns your browser's address bar into a flexible command line.

Gov 2.0: It’s All About The Platform

by ycc2106
But as with Web 2.0, the real secret of success in Government 2.0 is thinking about government as a platform. If there’s one thing we learn from the technology industry, it’s that every big winner has been a platform company: someone whose success has enabled others, who’ve built on their work and multiplied its impact. Microsoft put “a PC on every desk and in every home,” the internet connected those PCs, Google enabled a generation of ad-supported startups, Apple turned the phone market upside down by letting developers loose to invent applications no phone company would ever have thought of. In each case, the platform provider raised the bar, and created opportunities for others to exploit.
