Thesis : BNM

by karlcow

Today, the sexuality is a taboo for elderly generations.

During my investigation, I have observed many prejudices about this topic in our society.

However, sexuality is always active over 70 years old.

I have revaled three specifics aims to start my project :

- Stimulate Sexual desire of elders into rest-home

- Educate practical nurses and students

- Sensitize general public about sexuality of elderly people

You can watch the differents ideas I suggested

to resolve these 3 problems in Diploma's part.

Arte mise sur les web-créations - LeMonde.fr

by srcmax

by karlcow

Cette investigation cartographique illustre nombre des principes évoqués par Philippe Rekacewicz dans les colonnes du Monde diplomatique, sur le pouvoir des cartes et leur capacité à abstraire et transmettre l’information.

Megalopolis Shanghai by Horst and Daniel Zielske | Daily Icon

by karlcow

In this series of pictures, the two photographers - father and son - present Shanghai between fiction and reality as the ‘city of tomorrow’. The focal point of their photographic work is the architecture of the city’s streets, a critical investigation and analysis encompassing the subject of urban landscape. In a long-term project begun in November 2002, they have been documenting the metropolis Shanghai as an urban composition, a man-made architectural living space and enviroment of unprecedented and unimaginably gigantic dimensions. The resulting images are of immense visual beauty.

Fraser Speirs – On the Flickr support in iPhoto ‘09

by sbrothier (via)
As you may know, Apple added Flickr uploading to iPhoto ‘09. As you may guess, I was a little perturbed at this since I pay my mortgage by selling, er, a Flickr upload plugin for iPhoto. I acquired my copy of iLife ‘09 yesterday and decided to dive deep on how Apple have implemented Flickr integration in iPhoto ‘09. Here are the results of my investigation. Be aware as you read that this is the result of a morning’s click-around investigation and not months of serious use. I will do my best to give an honest assessment of what is in iPhoto ‘09, and you’ve already read my full disclosure in the previous paragraph.

Picture Show: No Lifeguard on Duty | GOOD

by karlcow

J. Bennett Fitts traveled some 20,000 miles to produce “No Lifeguard on Duty,” an investigation of America’s forgotten roadside motels. These vestiges of an earlier era—when families packed into their cars for summer vacations via two-lane highways—now exist in various stages of operation and disrepair. With their parking-lot-adjacent swimming pools prominently in the foreground, the motels reveal a decayed Americana and a near permanent sense of vacancy. However, beyond the cracked paint and the decrepit chain-links lies the nostalgia of life on the open road.

Using the Semantic Web for Genealogy

by xibe & 1 other

(...) genealogy seems to be an obvious application of an RDF ontology and the Semantic web. I've investigated making use of RDF and the Semantic Web for Family History. The results of my investigation are here on this web page. In my work, I created a program to translate files in GEDCOM format to XML. I also wrote several stylesheets which translated the data into a new format GEDCOM XML, HTML, and RDF.

MAMA: Scripting report, part 1: Basic scripting syntax and features - Opera Developer Community

by karlcow

To my knowledge, there has never been an in-depth examination of scripting factors in Web pages. Rene Saarsoo's study of Coding Practices of Web Pages was able to analyze some factors, but a bug in his analysis program prevented deeper investigation.

DeepLearningWorkshopNIPS2007 < Public < TWiki

by ogrisel (via)
Theoretical results strongly suggest that in order to learn the kind of complicated functions that can represent high-level abstractions (e.g. in vision, language, and other AI-level tasks), one may need "deep architectures", which are composed of multiple levels of non-linear operations (such as in neural nets with many hidden layers). Searching the parameter space of deep architectures is a difficult optimization task, but learning algorithms (e.g. Deep Belief Networks) have recently been proposed to tackle this problem with notable success, beating the state-of-the-art in certain areas. This workshop is intended to bring together researchers interested in the question of deep learning in order to review the current algorithms' principles and successes, but also to identify the challenges, and to formulate promising directions of investigation. Besides the algorithms themselves, there are many fundamental questions that need to be addressed: What would be a good formalization of deep learning? What new ideas could be exploited to make further inroads to that difficult optimization problem? What makes a good high-level representation or abstraction? What type of problem is deep learning appropriate for? The workshop presentation page show selected links to relevant papers (PDF) on the topic.

Inventors of the Industrial Revolution

by knann
Interactive site about Inventors of the Industrial Revolution. Good for DI. These interactive lessons will help students grasp the background and impact of the inventors of the Industrial Revolution. The activities include a timeline and some basic facts so students build a context of historical events and every day life in the time period. The Invention information and activities are divided into categories: Agriculture Textile Steam and Steel Transportation Technology These categories span nineteen pages of activities, followed by an interactive quiz. Some invention pages and the About page include links to outside sites (with an arrow and link icon) for further investigation. These sites open in a new window so you can visit them at any time in the course of a lesson without losing your place in the activities. Requires flash.
