On the Identity Trail - Lessons From the Identity Trail

by karlcow

During the past decade, rapid developments in information and communications technology have transformed key social, commercial, and political realities. Within that same time period, working at something less than Internet speed, much of the academic and policy debate arising from these new and emerging technologies has been fragmented. There have been few examples of interdisciplinary dialogue about the importance and impact of anonymity and privacy in a networked society. Lessons from the Identity Trail: Anonymity, Privacy and Identity in a Networked Society fills that gap, and examines key questions about anonymity, privacy, and identity in an environment that increasingly automates the collection of personal information and relies upon surveillance to promote private and public sector goals.

Jennifer Tee

by ainos
Skyline 2006 Raadszaal Stadsdeel–kantoor Zuid Oost, Amsterdam, Pays-Bas Commande publique "Skyline is a permanent artwork in the council chamber of the southeastern part of Amsterdam. Tee and Niessen have created a secret language with which they build a skyline, made out of silkscreen prints in a system using 6 patterns and 6 colors. First, Tee made drawings of motifs that are characteristic of the Bijlmer, such as shopping carts, African symbols and footballs referring to the Ajax-Arena. Richard Niessen then converted these drawings into patterns and signs. With a legend the signs can be decoded into well-known names of streets and buildings in the Bijlmer. The wall, which gives the impression of totems or flags, is beautiful in its details and it has a great impact as a whole."

Hello, Twitter | stopdesign

by sbrothier & 1 other
Yes, it’s true. After reading a bit of speculation over the past few weeks, I’ll confirm here that I am, indeed, joining Twitter. I don’t remember ever being as eager or excited to start a new job as I’ve been with this one. (Thus, why I only took one week off between jobs.) Over the past year, I spoke with several organizations about coming on board to lead a design team. But Twitter felt the like most natural fit from the very start of my talks with the team. It’s still early in Twitter’s history. The company is small. Its user base is growing rapidly. And I see lots of potential to directly impact and to help shape the Twitter brand.

inkdroid » Blog Archive » APIs Suck

by parmentierf
One thing that bubbled up at code4lib2009 last week was the notion that APIs Suck. Not that web2.0 APIs are wrong or bad…they’re actually great, especially when compared to a world where no machine access to the data existed before. The point is that sometimes just having access to the raw data in the ‘lowest level format’ is the ideal. Rather than service providers trying to guess what you are trying to do with their data, and absorbing the computational responsibility of delivering it, why not make the data readily available using a protocol like HTTP? Put the data in a directory, turn on Indexes, do some sensible caching, and maybe gzip compression and let people grab it, and robots to crawl it. Or maybe use something like Amazon Public Datasets. It seems like a relatively easy first step, that involves very little custom software development, and one with the ability make a huge impact.

Il est donc nécessaire d’identifier, de hiérarchiser et d’optimiser ces moments de vérité pour les mettre au cœur de la relation.

W3C Validators in Jeopardy

by philippej (via)

La collecte s'impose...

"That we’ve had the use of validation tools via the W3C for so long and without cost has been a significant component in the teaching and evangelism surrounding Web standards and best practices. To lose these tools would impact that message, not to mention take a certain amount of quality assurance away from the process."
