cityLAB, an urban think tank at UCLA’s Department of Architecture and Urban Design, announces a call for entries to “WPA 2.0: Working Public Architecture.” WPA 2.0 is an open competition that seeks innovative, implementable proposals to place infrastructure at the heart of rebuilding our cities during this next era of metropolitan recovery.

I listen more attentively. I feel more like I am standing next to the participant as opposed to opposite to them. We compensate participants not only with money but also with respect, candidness, and humanness. We adopted their language to explain that we value them and their obstacles; both sides are “participants” in the research.

Japanese Home Design – a glass home hangs on a steep slope like a bird nest, not for the faint of heart! Like a bird nest, this cool Japanese home by TNA Architects isn’t for the shy. Providing as equally an impressive view of the outside as of the inside, this amazing house is enclosed in a perimeter of windows nestled on a steep slope among the Karuizawa, with almost no support beneath it – looks like this bold, modern design isn’t for the faint of heart either!

When I needed heart surgery in 2002 and the doctor told me my life was over if I didn't get it, you might say he was being insensitive, but he was telling me something that I knew was true that I needed to hear. Three days later after the surgery, recouperating, the surgeon told me if I resumed smoking I would be dead in three years. Again, insensitive (he said it with a smile on his face believe it or not), but I'm glad he said it. The way he said it made it easier to quit. Sometimes the truth hurts. You can't blame people for saying things they believe, even if it hurts you to hear it.

Handycons 2 - icon set containing 20 more hand drawn icons. This time it is not limited just to socail media related icons. All icons come in four sizes: 16x16, 32x32, 64x64 and 12x128px. And they are all free, of course :)

what concerns me is the question if this is going to keep working or not? For some time I thought spotlight-comments-based Tags would be a solution – and later have run into growing difficulties, Quicksilver not 100% working any more with Tags, TagBot occasionally overwriting Tags, the TagBot people simply going away etc. etc.

There was SpotMeta (which, if I recall right did use a similar "Xattr"-solution ) but with Leopard that was not compatible and not developed anymore. I intend to go with Apples further development of OSX (as long as my machine is going to support this) but I want to be at least assured that the people who implement this new scheme will make everything possible to make it likely that it wil continue to work in the reasonably future. Michael didn't start fear in my heart, he just gave me a starting point to ask these questions. (By the way I have asked a similar question the Tags-people, a question based on my past experiences with tagging solutions)
