BLDGBLOG: Book of Space

by karlcow & 1 other

painstakingly precise laser-cuts made into the pages of a blank sketchbook. As the book is opened and its pages begin to turn, these cuts work together to form a spatial representation of the single, highly choreographed 90-minute shot that is Alexander Sokurov's film Russian Ark.

Overcome Your Caching Conundrums [Server Side Essentials]

by dzc
ealing with browser caching is a balancing act. On one hand, you aim to minimize load times and bandwidth use by ensuring that images, scripts, and style sheets are cached by your visitors; however, you still want to ensure that they’re accessing the most recent versions of all your files. In this article, I’ll show you a few methods for controlling how your site’s files are cached by browsers so you can achieve the best of both worlds: maintaining optimal performance while ensuring that any updates are seen immediately, without a hitch by all of your users.

Papercraft Self Portrait - Art Portfolio for Eric Testroete

by karlcow

I made this as my costume for Halloween 2009. It was kind of inspired by big-head mode seen in videogames. I really wanted to get the faceted geosphere look with wireframe.

WordPress › Post Templates « WordPress Plugins

by mozkart (via)
It happens quite often that a blogger publishes posts or static pages on a regular basis which have the same structure. Think about for example a "picture of the day" daily post. With current wordpress state, we need to spend a lot of time doing copy/paste between posts instead of actually writing content. All the instructions for installation, the support forums, etc. can be found on the plugin home page. IMPORTANT: LICENSE CHANGE Since version 4.0.0, the plugin has become a commercial plugin. It can be ordered (for cheap) on the plugin home page. Version 3.4.x will remain available for download for free on the WordPress plugin repository. No further development will be made on this version.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUU - Sharenator.org Original

by Spone
This is my favorite 4chan meme. I've spent half of my boring day in the office looking for the best rage threads and made this collection. I'd love to credit authors but most of them seem to be... anonymous. I found some of these on 4chan, some on sites like digg, reddit, some on google (and it wasn't easy to find something with unknown number of F's and U's in the file name), etc. These are the best of them in one place. Enjoy!

FOTO8 - Thomas Ruff interview

by sbrothier
Thomas Ruff is explaining the enduring concerns that have animated the work that has made him one of the most innovative and distinguished art photographers of recent decades: ‘I always want to take the medium of photography into the picture, so that you are always aware that you are looking at an image – a photograph,’ he says, before continuing, ‘so, in the picture I hope you can see two things: the image itself, plus the reflection – or the thinking – about photography. I hope it’s visible. I’m an investigator, and it is as if I am investigating the grammar of photography.'

Flickr! It’s made of people! « Flickr Blog

by karlcow

You can set your preferences for who can add you to photos and who can add people to photos you’ve shared. You can even determine on a photo-by-photo basis if you’d like to be featured — after all, everyone has a bad hair day now and then. If you do remove yourself from a photo, only you will be able to add yourself back in. If you decide that People in Photos isn’t your thing, you can remove yourself entirely.

YES!
