The results of my investigation are here on this web page. In my work, I created a program to translate files in GEDCOM format to XML. I also wrote several stylesheets which translated the data into a new format GEDCOM XML, HTML, and RDF.

Likewise there’s been a call for a genealogy microformat. But I think that the information required for a family tree—at least for the 80/20 situation—can be handled with a combination of existing microformats: * hCard for people, * hCalendar for lifespans and * XFN for relationships.
