monday note

by blackgoldfish
every monday for the last year my love has written me a special note. i laid them all out on the floor tonight and read them all again. and then i realized... every monday, for the rest of my life, i'm going to wake up excited to read his note. and if we're lucky, and we live for another 50+ years, i'll be the receiver of over two thousand love notes. not bad huh? :) i think i'll keep him.

The Berlin Wall: 20 Years Later - The Berlin Wall Through Time - Interactive Feature - NYTimes.com

by sbrothier & 1 other
SNAKING ALONG, cutting through fields and streets, yards and gardens, the 28-mile-long Berlin Wall stood as a border between East and West Berlin from 1961 to 1989. That all changed on Nov. 9, 1989, when an inexact translation, a confused border guard and a natural longing for a better life opened a hole in that wall that would eventually end the Cold War. OpenURL : Helping you buy: link resolver tools.(Your guide to vendor product facts) | Article from Computers in Libraries | HighBeam Research

by decembre
To any library with an electronic collection of any significance, the Open URL link resolver has (or should) become an indispensable service for helping its users retrieve full text from citations. Although they are a relatively new technology (in library terms, at any rate), link resolvers arguably have become as important as the OPAC; they locate articles from A & I databases, strengthen the role of interlibrary loan, and enable metasearch. MAP

by karlcow

MAP (Manual of Architectural Possibilities) is a publication of research and visions; research into territories, which can be concrete or abstract, but always put into question. Map is not a magazine (it only has two pages) and is not a book (it is issued twice a year). Map presents itself as a folded poster (A1) where information is immediate, dense and objective in one side, and architectural and subjective on the other. Map is a guide to potential actions in the built environment, a folded encyclopedia of the possible, a topography of ideas, or a poster on the wall.

by karlcow

Unlike the traditional ways to capture travel information, our approach relies on the mobile phone to generate “automatic passive” GSM fingerprints and trigger an in-situ questionnaire. It is an hybrid solution of implicit motion detection with the air traveller’s consent and explicit disclosure of the travel experience.

Seoul is one of the world’s most wired city, and the recent “ubiquitous city” project aims to increase the level of connectivity citizens experience on the street. One of the most visible part of the u-city is the media poles forest, tenth of computers embedded into high poles offering services like news, submay and bus maps, email postcard, 3D avatar game, casual games, shopping/restaurant locator and Flickr photo gallery (more). This sort of rich country’s version of the hole in the wall is extremely popular, and many couples and groups gather around the screens to share a moment playing games or sending a postcard.
