by mozkart & 3 others (via)
When we first launched the lab, we released a jQuery plugin that automatically preloads all images referenced in CSS files. We've found the script to be incredibly helpful in developing snappy applications where images are always ready when we need them. This post describes a significant update to the script which will make it even easier to integrate in existing projects.

Setting Equal Heights with jQuery | Filament Group, Inc.

by camel & 4 others (via)
We wrote a script to "equalize" the heights of boxes within the same container and create a tidy grid — with little overhead. Creating the visual effect of equal-height columns or content boxes has been a challenge ever since we abandoned table-based layouts. When developing complex web applications or site designs we've found that it often makes the most sense from a usability and performance standpoint to use a simple JavaScript workaround: our equalHeights() function determines the heights of all sibling elements in a container, and then sets each element's minimum height to that of the tallest element. When JavaScript is disabled, the boxes or columns appear with varying heights, but the content remains legible and the page is still completely usable.

Data visualization in HTML has long been tricky to achieve. Past solutions have involved non-standard plugins, proprietary behavior, and static images. But this has changed with the recent growth in support for the new HTML Canvas element, which provides a native drawing API that can be addressed with simple Javascript. This article is a proof of concept for visualizing HTML table data with the canvas element.
