Fedora Commons 3.0 Versus DSpace 1.5 : Selecting an Enterprise-Grade Repository System for FAO of the United Nations - Georgia Tech's Institutional Repository

by parmentierf
An extensive evaluation of the Fedora Commons 3.0 and DSpace 1.5 digital document repository systems has been conducted. The evaluation aimed at selecting an open source software package that best satisfies the FAO Open Archive and FAO organizational requirements and the requirements for the storage, dissemination and preservation of documents and bibliographic metadata. Both repository systems were evaluated against thirty-two criteria chosen from nine core categories of requirements: community, security, functionality, integration, modularity, metadata, statistics and reports, preservation, and outputs. These criteria were selected with the merger of the FAODOC and FAO Corporate Document Repository (CDR) into the FAO Open Archive in mind.

HIDPoint

by Fulcanelli
HIDPoint can be considered as a Linux version of Logitech’s or Microsoft’s Keyboard and Mouse configuration software. HIDPoint has been designed to give users using USB Mice and Keyboards, the same experience they get when using these devices on Microsoft Windows.

by tadeufilippini (via)
Lubi installs Ubuntu on Linux without a CD or partitioning. LVPM upgrades Wubi to dedicated partition installs. UNetbootin (liveUSB creator for Ubuntu, Fedora, PCLinuxOS, Gentoo, and other distros) has moved to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

[Fedora-livecd-list] Re: booting from non-DMA IDE CF card

by night.kame

Replying to myself in case someone else has the same problem in the future. I ended up compiling the old ATA/IDE drivers into the kernel and omitting the new libata (PATA/SATA) drivers from the kernel. I also added ide=nodma to the kernel boot string.

Ca s'appelle une grosse régression.

Tools/Apt - FedoraProject

by night.kame

APT-RPM is a large and complex C project, while yum was written using Python in much less lines of code making it easier for the Fedora Project to review, maintain and enhance. This is still a valid issue.

Résultat : yum est une grosse daube qui prend trois plombes pour exécuter la moindre commande. Et ça n'est parce que c'est plus facile à vérifier, maintenir et améliorer que ces trois tâches sont effectivement effectuées !

wire » JA-SIG 2008

by parmentierf (via)
It’s a relief to know that I’m not the only one that admires Fedora’s content model and wonders why DSpace should try to reinvent that with it’s “2.0″ vision versus adopting Fedora as a storage and web services layer and benefiting from a shared developer base.
