b is for book

by blackgoldfish
When our son C was born, my husband's family put together a bag full of favorite children's books. Each person in the family chose a book, and wrote a little note explaining why they had picked it and what they hoped C would learn from it. It was such a thoughtful gift, and almost five years later, many of those books are my son's favorites.

Grid Based Design Toolbox | Fuel Your Creativity

by fabifab & 2 others
Grid Based Design Toolbox March 16, 2009 by Adelle Charles My favorite place to go for Grid based design information is The Grid System. It’s a ‘must bookmark’ in my opinion. Don’t forget to check out the new Grid System Forum too. I’m a minimalist designer so I believe the grid is one of the most important elements of web design. There are many articles and resources on the web, I’ve chosen to pick through them all and compile my best resources/tools all in one fell swoop. Keep in mind, there are plenty of list posts out there but these are my ‘go to’ grid resources.

Htaccess - Ultimate .htaccess Tutorial

by Spone & 1 other
Originally this page was known as the “Ultimate .htaccess Guide” but I’ve been regularly adding new .htaccess tricks and .htaccess examples for several years. I also add my favorite .htacess tutorials, .htaccess tricks published elsewhere, results from some .htaccess experiments and continually improve this article because I’m sorta obsessed with finding the coolest htaccess tricks, and I’ve got some cool ones I promise you that! If you look around the site you’ll notice .htaccess tricks that nobody else has, .htaccess tricks that push the limits. This isn’t an introduction to .htaccess, this is the evolution of .htaccess files for your website.

Reading from a smartphone, the smart way | Monday Note

Why not push the idea a little further? Let’s imagine. I’m a reader of, say, The Guardian, Le Monde or the Norwegian VG. And I want to consume my online paper during my morning commute. My iPhone (or any future similar device) is set to wake up at 7h00 sharp and download my favorite web sites’ latest updates.

Ca s'appelle AvantGo, et on l'utilisait en 2000. Une bonne phrase dans l'article néanmoins :

Anytime/anywhere broadband availability exists only in Google’s imagination.

MarshalSandler.com » Gotham Gal-Etiquette

by msandler
It is no secret Gotham Gal is one of my favorites and is a top content creator ! I once posted a comment on her husband’s web site that I still took notes on Crain StationaryWith A Quill pen ! http://www.crane.com/ My mother was very well educated and in our house Etiquette was king ! We had beautiful Crane Note paper and I still remember even though I was born in 1936-having to write hundreds of thank you note’s to people who attended my Bar Mitzvah ! I of course used a Parker 51 Fountain Pen that I got as a gift ! When I turned 21 I had my own Crain Stationary that was blind embossed with a simple line in the left hand column and the store where I bought it had to register the embossing ! The stationary got me a lot of response from politicians and other people I wrote , they must have thought I was important ! Presentation is a very important element in any communcation ! I was always jealous of my Friends who attented Catholic School since their penmanship was a work of art ! They had the Palmer method applied to their fingers with a ruler ! I didn’t meet the ruler method until I went Hebrew School ! I went to Detroit Country Day School for grades 1-12 and there was a lot of pressure applied to read and write ! Steve Ballmer also graduated from that School a long time after me and I know dam well it gave him an excellent base for a career ! Most of the people at that school were Harvard Bound since the headmaster F Alden Shaw was a Harvard graduate ! Me I went to the University of Miami and majored in what they call today Communication, with a minor in Statistics and it was the fifties so we all got 5th Degree Black Belts in Rum Drinking on a beautiful island 90 mies from Miami - Viva Ritmo Latino ! A good education will help you understand the Human Condition a long with a few wacks from a good Psychiatrist ! Both these elements temper your ego and make sure you are not a snob ! The internet is young and I have found a lot of people who created content that is presented with good taste aimed at all of the US The Unwashed ! I strongly resent the critics on the internet who have no backround liberal arts critisizing others ! Teche’s are the worst at this since usually they have technical degress and have never learned to communicate with anything other than a machine ! My people communicators are Seth Godin- Davie Winer- Chris Brogan-ShelIsrael-Bill Israel-Andrew Badera-Frank Eliason-Guy Kawasaki -Fred Wilson-Gotham Gal and many more !
