Dual Perspectives Article

by karlcow

User-created online culture isn't "mass culture," exactly; no single blog post gets as much exposure as, say, an episode of American Idol. But it's culture by the masses.

WP Greet Box WordPress Plugin | OMNINOGGIN

by mozkart (via)
This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your new visitors depending on their referrer url. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to digg your post if they like it. Another example, when a visitor clicks through from Twitter, they will see a message suggesting them to twit the post and follow you on Twitter. You can also set a default greeting message for new visitors (not matching any referrer URLs) suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Professional bloggers know that having these targeted suggestions on their blog increases their blog exposure and loyal readership. Best of all, this plugin is compatible with various WordPress cache plugins so you do not have to sacrifice speed. Even Smashing Magazine is using this plugin. Take it from the pros and download it!

Exposure Fusion: What is it? How does it Compare to HDR? How Do I Do It?

by mozkart (via)
Exposure Fusion Software At this stage Exposure Fusion is still in its infancy, so there’s only a handful of programs to choose from. Enfuse is the primary tool for Exposure Fusion at the moment, and although it is a command line utility, there are ‘‘droplets’‘ (batch files) available that you can drag and drop a series of images onto to create a fused image. Ingemar Bergmark has produced a GUI for it, not surprisingly called EnfuseGui, which can be a little easier if you aren’t too keen on command lines. If you’ve got Lightroom then one of the more convenient ways is to use the plugin. It still uses the command line utility in the background (you have to tell it where your enfuse.exe is), but the process looks more refined. However, the plugin is donation-ware so its limited to 500px final images until you donate to get the full version. There is currently no plugin for Photoshop. If you’re into photo stitching then PTgui and Hugin may be of interest to you. These programs utilise Exposure Fusion by stitching and fusing bracketed sequences together, with some pretty nice results.

The Exposure Project: Michel Mazzoni's Zones & Fragment Theories

by karlcow

Michel Mazzoni e-mailed me today with a selection of images from his series' Zones & Fragments Theories. In both these projects, Mazzoni explores the landscape as a place wrought with social alienation. Figures are situated in the landscape as sculptures, often dwarfed by vast and anonymous spaces.

I would also recommend looking through his series Interstices, which has a number of nice images.

Platial News and Neogeography: Daylight Sensors Used for Mapping

by karlcow

By simply logging daylight exposure, then cross referencing that data with known sunrise/sunset times, Dr. Bridget Stutchbury, of York University in Toronto, was able to generate accurate maps of previously uncharted songbird migrations.

Pourraît être cool d'avoir un sensor sur soi pour savoir combien de lumière et quel type de lumière on reçoit par jour et corréler cela avec les moments de fatigue

Alice.org

by karlcow

Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a student's first exposure to object-oriented programming. It allows students to learn fundamental programming concepts in the context of creating animated movies and simple video games. In Alice, 3-D objects (e.g., people, animals, and vehicles) populate a virtual world and students create a program to animate the objects.

Enfuse - PanoTools.org Wiki

by rmaltete & 1 other (via)
Enfuse is a command-line program used to merge different exposures of the same scene to produce an image that looks very much like a tonemapped image (without the halos) but requires no creation of an HDR image. Therefore it is much simpler to use and allows the creation of very large multiple exposure panoramas. Enfuse is based on a paper by Tom Mertens, Jan Kautz and Frank Van Reeth: "Exposure fusion" The implementation was done by Andrew Mihal (developer of Enblend) and the hugin team around Pablo d'Angelo

designswarm thoughts » Blog Archive » Uneasy intimacies

by karlcow

I never thought ubicomp would come out of an iPhone app. If anything, Exposure has the power to connect us with objects and lives that were lived around us in the past, as long as they’ve been geotagged first. Matt and I had a look, sitting on our couch at home, and found pictures of people who are probably our neighbours having a bbq, portraits, etc. There was something uneasy about seeing pictures of people who cease to become strangers yet aren’t familiar at all. A whole future of perception lies ahead.
