Appulous : The iPhone and iPod Touch Application Index

by sbrothier & 3 others
As many iPhone and iPod touch owners have discovered, Apple's iTunes App Store has many flaws which render it useless to the common user. Apple has chosen to allow a multitude of ridiculous, worthless, poorly-represented applications through its "strict" screening process, nearly all written by mediocre programmers with a dream of getting rich quick. Many of these programmers game the reviews system, misrepresent their application in the description, and generally try to swindle the honest buyer. Applications generally do not cost much, but small fees add up. The iPhone/iPod community has wasted so much money on these programs, an epidemic has taken hold where people have simply stopped buying apps they aren't certain of so they don't find themselves purchasing yet another waste of a program.

Adventures in linux

by tadeufilippini (via)
KDe look and stuff well i uploaded more epidemic Linux stuff . icons wallpapers and the like. because it seems that flavor is from brasil . I made some greened pics of San Palo and added the bio-hazard logo. Also i had to install new video drivers. so my second life for Linux would work .it is neat but its not some thing I'll spend a lot of time with. I was looking on line to make a script file (an sh file) . i found some good tutorials. I also checked out the information on Arch Linux as it is also very popular.it is kind of like open suse and gen-too as it starts out very basic and the users build on it per their needs. so for the average new user to Linux it isn't recommended. well im of to make script files. :-)

French Phylloxera Epidemic: Largest Disaster in the History of Wine

by sbrothier
A mysterious blight struck the majority of French grape vines between the late 1850s and the turn of the century, causing enormous damage to the French economy. In the vine districts, wages dropped by half, businesses collapsed, and much of viticulture population emigrated to Algeria and other countries. (1) Vintners used 36,633 tons of sugar to improve the quality and quantity of wine produced in 1888, and imported larger quantities of foreign wines to meet the demand for mixing. The imports were, from Spain, 7,008,000 hectoliters; Italy, 1,082,305 hectoliters; and Algeria, 1,089,000 hectoliters. (2) One hectoliter equals to 100 liters or 26,418 U.S. gallons.

The trouble with soy -- part 2

by jasontromm
Perhaps fewer than 10 percent of us are aware that soybeans are a hotly debated topic in medical circles today. Soy products – eaten, drunk and slipped into thousands of commercial products – are rightly being blamed for a horrendous variety of medical conditions, several of them nearing epidemic status and a few of them irreversible. Pediatricians and other doctors are starting to see a growing parade of patients suffering from serious symptoms that were quite rare just a generation ago.

Obesity, why healthy people should embrace it.

by giasen
If you havent heard of the upcoming “obesity epidemic,” you must not watch TV or surf much on the internet (at least you arent looking for anything but women that end in .jpg or .mpg). The obesity problem is a world-wide issue with such countries as England and Italy simply launching their obesity populations into the stratosphere. Walk into a McDonalds in Holland or France and watch some potato-grease sticks get covered in mayo. You have to love the euro-superiority complex, but sorry there Jean-Pierre…you have a lot of really really fat people in frogland.
