Internet Explorer and cacheing: beware of the Vary - Crisp's blog
To cut a long story short: while reconfiguring my local server to match our production settings I found out that the Vary-header was the actual culprit, and that mod_gzip (a module responsible for compressing content before sending it to the client and thus saving bandwidth) added this particular header, even though we explicitly excluded images from being compressed by this module by means of a mimetype filter (images have a mimetype that matches image/* e.g. image/gif, image/jpeg and so on).

Internet Explorer 9: Microsoft Reveals First Details
The new browser is very early in the development process. It’s only been in development for three weeks, as Windows 7’s release took precedent, thus there are not many details for IE9. However, the theme seems to be that IE9 is going to adhere and even improve upon web standards (albeit “responsibly”).

Michael(tm) Smith » WebKit adds support for the HTML5 <ruby> element
Current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer also have native support for ruby, and you can also get ruby support in Firefox by installing Piro’s XHTML Ruby add-on (and for more details, see his XHTML ruby add-on info page) — so we are well on the way to seeing the HTML5 ruby feature supported across a range of browsers.
Maintenant que Ruby a gagné son petit autocollant "HTML 5", les développeurs de navigateurs s'y intéressent. Comme quoi, le web tient à peu de chose.

CSS Compatibility and Internet Explorer
With each new release of Windows Internet Explorer, support for the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) standard has steadily improved. Internet Explorer 6 was the first fully CSS, Level 1-compliant version of Internet Explorer. Windows Internet Explorer 8 is fully compliant with the CSS, Level 2 Revision 1 (CSS 2.1) specification and supports some features of CSS Level 3 (CSS 3).

‘For three periods of one month, I have let the Trans-Siberian train guide me alongside forgotten villages, from living room to living room. Some Russian words scribbled on a little piece of paper allowed me to be welcomed and absorbed in the warm chaos of a family. Accidental encounters led me to the places where I could sleep. The living room, the epicentre of their life, establishes an intimate contact between the Russian inhabitants. In this room, they sleep, eat and drink, as well as cry. For a brief moment, I was part of this. Their couch became my bed for one night. This way, I experienced transient, but very powerful, shared moments. We communicated without words. We understood each other somehow’.

Experience History: Berlin 1961-1989 « Flickr Blog
Mes photos sont en Normandie. hmmm il faut que je demande. We’ve created the Experience History: Berlin 1961-1989 group, to give members the opportunity to share photographic memories of divided Berlin during this period. If you were living or visiting Berlin at that time, this is a wonderful excuse to rediscover your old slides and dust off those photo-filled shoe boxes that are lurking under your bed.
