FFFFFUUUUUUUUU - Sharenator.org Original

by Spone
This is my favorite 4chan meme. I've spent half of my boring day in the office looking for the best rage threads and made this collection. I'd love to credit authors but most of them seem to be... anonymous. I found some of these on 4chan, some on sites like digg, reddit, some on google (and it wasn't easy to find something with unknown number of F's and U's in the file name), etc. These are the best of them in one place. Enjoy!

Ajaxian » The slow death of IE 6 support; YouTube and browser placement

by srcmax (via)

Many sites have been slowly crying off of IE 6 support, and big boys like Twitter, Facebook, Digg and YouTube are joining the action. What is interesting about the YouTube story is the placement of the upgrade buttons.

YouTube Will Be Next To Kiss IE6 Support Goodbye

by marco
YouTube so far hasn't officially communicated about the desire to drop support for IE6, but it's conceivable that like Digg it would rather have its developers spend time optimizing the service for newer, better browsers than wasting man hours on the oft-despised Microsoft browser.

WP Greet Box WordPress Plugin | OMNINOGGIN

by mozkart (via)
This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your new visitors depending on their referrer url. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to digg your post if they like it. Another example, when a visitor clicks through from Twitter, they will see a message suggesting them to twit the post and follow you on Twitter. You can also set a default greeting message for new visitors (not matching any referrer URLs) suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Professional bloggers know that having these targeted suggestions on their blog increases their blog exposure and loyal readership. Best of all, this plugin is compatible with various WordPress cache plugins so you do not have to sacrifice speed.  Even Smashing Magazine is using this plugin.  Take it from the pros and download it!

Dare Obasanjo aka Carnage4Life - ASP.NET Caching vs. memcached: Seeking Efficient Data Partitioning, Lookup, and Retrieval

by ERSWeb (via)
I recently discovered memcached which is a distributed, object caching system originally developed by Brad Fitzpatrick of LiveJournal fame. You can think of memcached as a giant hash table that can run on multiple servers which automatically handles maintaining the balance of objects hashed to each server and transparently fetches/removes objects from over the network if they aren't on the same machine that is accessing an object in the hash table. Although this sounds fairly simple, there is a lot of grunt work in building a distributed object cache which handles data partitioning across multiple servers and hides the distributed nature of the application from the developer. memcached is a well integrated into the typical LAMP stack and is used by a surprising number of high traffic websites including Slashdot, Facebook, Digg, Flickr and Wikipedia. Below is what C# code that utilizes memcached would look like sans exception handling code

Digg no longer the Favorite | I Do Info Tech

by greut

The data are illustrated below in the chart provided by ShareThis. The results are likely an accurate reflection of the various sharing services popularity on the web as a whole as ShareThis is extremely popular:

  • Email is by far most popular sharing service getting 57%.
  • Facebook is the second most popular sharing service at 21%
  • Digg has dropped significantly in popularity to 2%

How people share things using ShareThis. When are we gonna see XMPP coming?
