In February 2009, Jim McKelvey wasn’t able to sell a piece of his glass art because he couldn’t accept a credit card as payment. Even though a majority of payments has moved to plastic cards, accepting payments from cards is still difficult, requiring long applications, expensive hardware, and an overly complex experience. Square was born a few days later right next to the old San Francisco US Mint. Today the Square team is focused on bringing immediacy, transparency, and approachability to the world of payments: an inherently social interaction each of us participates in daily. We’re starting with a limited beta and rolling out to everyone in early 2010.

* Makers. People that repurpose existing technology through the implementation of alterations to change its function. A corollary to Makers are people that improve existing products/systems (make them more powerful/better/faster).

* Creators. People that create new tools or unique systems from scratch using raw materials (think fab lab hacks).

This is my favorite 4chan meme. I've spent half of my boring day in the office looking for the best rage threads and made this collection. I'd love to credit authors but most of them seem to be... anonymous. I found some of these on 4chan, some on sites like digg, reddit, some on google (and it wasn't easy to find something with unknown number of F's and U's in the file name), etc. These are the best of them in one place. Although this is an absolutely free trial, Safari Books Online does require that you enter credit card information for security purposes. We will authenticate your card at the beginning of your trial period to determine if the card number is valid. We do this by issuing a "dummy" $1 charge. This charge is never actually applied to your credit card because it disappears as soon as we verify the authenticity of the card. Occasionally, depending on how your bank or credit card issuer handles these types of tests, customers may see this charge in their account, but it always drops off. If your free trial period ends and you have not cancelled your account, you are authorizing us to automatically charge your card the monthly fee (plus any applicable taxes) for the subscription type you have chosen.
