LOVELAND - ABOUT

by 4004
Based in Detroit, Michigan, LOVELAND is all about creative new concepts in micro payments for micro ownership and use of land. It is building frameworks for many people to invest and participate in the creation of something where nothing was before, and to interact with places both in person and online in various unique ways. Starting with the smallest unit of American measurement, the humble inch, the first LOVELAND "colony" is a 10,000 square inch grid called Plymouth. People are invited to purchase these inches for a dollar a piece. When Plymouth is full it will move outdoors from its temporary home in Detroit's Russell Industrial Center and the next colony (or colonies) will appear.

(Field)

by karlcow

— a development environment for making digital art

Field is an open-source software project initiated by OpenEnded Group, for the creation of their digital artworks. It is an environment for writing code to rapidly and experimentally assemble and explore algorithmic systems. It is visual, it is hybrid, it is code-based. We think that it has something to offer a diverse range of programmers and artists.

Based on ideas started at the MIT Media Lab, Field was in development in-house for around 6 years. But for the last 16 months it has been quietly available online as an open source project. We are pleased to announce the initial "beta" binary open-source releases for Intel-based Macs OS X 10.5 or 10.6.

Marc Ngui | Drawing - Art

by karlcow

These drawings are a methodical interpretation of the first two chapters of A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schzophrenia (Wikipedia link) by Gilles Delueze and Felix Guattari, translated by Brian Massumi, University of Minnesota Press, 1987.

The drawings were created as a means of understanding the ideas being presented in the book.

Each drawing is labeled by chapter and paragraph.

Marc sent these diagrams to Brian Massumi, the translator of A Thousand Plateaus into English, who is currently one of the editors of Inflexions, the online journal for research-creation. The first volume of the journal includes some of these diagrams in the Tangents section.

Marshall Alexander - Paper Engineer

by sbrothier & 4 others
I am a Dutch paper engineer, based in Arnhem, and my work mainly focuses on the creation of papertoys. I either create completely new characters from scratch or I transform existing characters into papermodels. My speciality is one-piece papertoys, models that consist of a single flat piece of paper, which by intricate folding is transformed into a 3-dimensional model. I also create more complex templates consisting of several parts that are glued together to construct the final model. I've have done commissioned work for the toy industry, for promotional purposes and for books and magazines. Growing up in the seventies and eighties, my personal work is heavily inspired by retro design, videogames, movies, bright plastic toys and TV cartoons. Most of this work can be downloaded for free from my site. So get your knives and glue out, download some of the models and start building. Enjoy!
