The Programming Aphorisms of Strunk and White - Coding the Wheel

by karlcow

Of course, "Strunk and White," as the book is commonly called, has nothing to do with software (it was written in 1935) and everything to do with writing: grammar, composition, and style for users of the English language. But in its 100 short pages this book has more to say about the craft of software than many books you'll find in the "Computing" section of your local bookstore.

Introducing Typekit « The Typekit Blog

by Spone & 3 others
We’ve been working with foundries to develop a consistent web-only font linking license. We’ve built a technology platform that lets us to host both free and commercial fonts in a way that is incredibly fast, smoothes out differences in how browsers handle type, and offers the level of protection that type designers need without resorting to annoying and ineffective DRM. As a Typekit user, you’ll have access to our library of high-quality fonts. Just add a line of JavaScript to your markup, tell us what fonts you want to use, and then craft your pages the way you always have. Except now you’ll be able to use real fonts. This really is going to change web design. We’ll be launching this summer with a great collection of beautiful and hardworking typefaces. We’ll offer a free version of the service to get you started, and a low-cost way to grow from there. A truly scalable professional version will follow soon after.

The Photographic Dictionary -

by decembre
The Photographic Dictionary photographic dictionary </ br> 250px-ad-pmavegas ~ Have a cool photo product or site? Reach 260,000 photo fans </ br> Has inspiration walked out on you? Is your gray matter a bit too gray these days? Maybe you need a kick in the creative behindus. The Photographic Dictionary pairs photos with definitions of words, but this isn’t your bog standard A-is-for-Apple dictionary. Abstract ideas like ascent, vacuous and curiosity are our favorites, but even prosaic nouns like office and bridge make you think in a different way. Whether you’ve got writer’s block or photographer’s ennui or the systemic aesthetic doldrums, the Photographic Dictionary is good for what ails you. The Photographic Dictionary via Craft

bolachas grátis. » Blog Archive » Madeleine Peyroux - Bare Bones [2009]

by Neewok

Smoky voiced singer Madeleine Peyroux’s earthy new album ‘Bare Bones’ will be released March 10, 2009 on Rounder Records. Peyroux — who’s achieved critical notice and sales success with her signature “postmodernist coolness” (LA Times) — had a hand in writing all the songs on ‘Bare Bones,’ including collaborations with album producer Larry Klein, Walter Becker, Julian Coryell, Joe Henry, David Batteau and Sean Wayland. One song, “I Must Be Saved,” was written entirely by Peyroux. With ‘Bare Bones,’ Peyroux has crafted her best album yet, an artistic breakthrough that finds her sublime voice wrapped around a collection of songs that she helped craft from their inception, marking her evolution as a songwriter.

The 10 best beer names ever - St. Petersburg Times

by sbrothier
I recently read a piece by John Foyston in The Oregonian relating how five bottles of an ultra-rare beer named Hair of the Dog Dave sold separately at auction for a combined $2838.30. Had there been a sixth, Foyston points out, it would have amounted to a $3,500 sixer. After cringing a bit, I had to laugh. If it had been a wine, the name on the bottle would have been something pompous sounding like Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. However, these bidders shelled out up to $719 per 375ml for a tipple named Dave. You have to love the working-class ethic of the craft beer community.
