Fedora Commons 3.0 Versus DSpace 1.5 : Selecting an Enterprise-Grade Repository System for FAO of the United Nations - Georgia Tech's Institutional Repository

by parmentierf
An extensive evaluation of the Fedora Commons 3.0 and DSpace 1.5 digital document repository systems has been conducted. The evaluation aimed at selecting an open source software package that best satisfies the FAO Open Archive and FAO organizational requirements and the requirements for the storage, dissemination and preservation of documents and bibliographic metadata. Both repository systems were evaluated against thirty-two criteria chosen from nine core categories of requirements: community, security, functionality, integration, modularity, metadata, statistics and reports, preservation, and outputs. These criteria were selected with the merger of the FAODOC and FAO Corporate Document Repository (CDR) into the FAO Open Archive in mind.

Blindside's got the cushion and control to help you pull it off.One of the core brand values of adidas is innovation. As a result, their products include some of the most innovative technologies in the industry today. The following technologies featured in this shoe will help you find the basketball shoe that is perfect for you. Non-marking outsoleSports on an indoor surface require movements from side-to-side as well as forward and backwards. The athlete wants to move in all directions quickly and with control. Shindig - Welcome To Shindig!

by holyver & 4 others (via)
What is Shindig? Shindig is a container for hosting social application consisting of four parts: * Gadget Container JavaScript: core JavaScript foundation for general gadget functionality (read more about gadget functionality). This JavaScript manages security, communication, UI layout, and feature extensions, such as the OpenSocial API. * Gadget Rendering Server: used to render the gadget XML into JavaScript and HTML for the container to expose via the container JavaScript. * OpenSocial Container JavaScript: JavaScript environment that sits on top of the Gadget Container JavaScript and provides OpenSocial specific functionality (profiles, friends, activities, datastore). * OpenSocial Data Server: an implementation of the server interface to container-specific information, including the OpenSocial REST APIs, with clear extension points so others can connect it to their own backends. Shindig is the reference implementation of OpenSocial API specifications, a standard set of Social Network APIs which includes: * Profiles * Relationships * Activities * Shared applications * Authentication * Authorization

DesignNotes by Michael Surtees » Blog Archive » Video on Agile Design from my Creative Mornings talk is up

by karlcow

’m really happy to mention that my Agile Design talk at Creative Mornings can now be seen on Vimeo at http://www.vimeo.com/4831538. The entire video is about half an hour with the Q & A—I guess I went over my ten minute slot, ha. I just want to thank Tina and the entire Creative Mornings team for giving me the opportunity to talk, setting up the event and producing a great video that ties my talk together. I also wanted to thank James A. Reeves who was hanging out in Finland and was the virtual skype guest, and Core Industries for sponsoring the talk.

Unboxing Web-Oriented Architecture: The 6 Aspects Of An Emergent Architectural Style

by night.kame

Transfer Methods. This is at the core of REST and ROA and is the foundation of Web-Oriented Architecture. You can read Roy Fielding's chapter on REST (he conceived of the approach originally) or you can just follow the simple guidelines here. At other times, protocols like BitTorrent can be used if the requirements warrant it, but these are exceptional scenarios that I will cover at some point in the future.

Ne pas citer XMPP dans les "Transfer Methods" quelque jours après l'annonce de Google Wave, et surtout le mettre dans le schéma au niveau des Microformats fait perdre toute crédibilité à l'article.

TechTLV : Can you hear me now? The operator-centric mobile model is over

by oseres
Can you hear me now? The operator-centric mobile model is over Last week, T-Mobile Germany made some waves by banning Skype for the iPhone. Some might read this as a long overdue reassertion of operator power, but I disagree. A few months ago, I learned from a reliable source that a major operator was deliberately not shipping a very popular mobile phone model that they knew their customers wanted because the phone didn’t give them enough control over what the customer does. The phone was too open. This is exactly what Google was talking about back in 2007 when it insisted on openness as a condition to bidding in the FCC’s spectrum auction. Ten years ago, when I covered mobile operators on Wall Street, they used to cite their vast capital expenditure on building on their cellular networks as their core differentiator. This was the reality behind Verizon’s amusing “can you hear me now?” campaign.

Crammed / Staff Benda Bilili 'Très Très Fort'

by fotopol
ensemble congolais Four senior singer/guitarists sitting on tricycles, occasionally dancing on the floor of the stage, arms raised in joyful supplication, are the core or the band, backed by a younger, all-acoustic rhythm section pounding out tight beats. Over the top of this are weird, infectious guitar-like solos performed by a 17 year-old prodigy on a one-string electric lute he designed and built himself out of a tin can.

plists - Google Code

by jpcaruana
plists is a drop-in replacement for the Erlang module lists, making most list operations parallel. It can operate on each element in parallel, for IO-bound operations, on sublists in parallel, for taking advantage of multi-core machines with CPU-bound operations, and across erlang nodes, for parallizing inside a cluster. It handles errors and node failures. It can be configured, tuned, and tweaked to get optimal performance while minimizing overhead.

MPlayer OSX Extended

by rmaltete
This is an unofficial extended version of the MPlayer OSX GUI. While MPlayer is the superior media player for OSX and has a very nice GUI, it was lacking in access to the many powerful functions the backend provides and development hasn't been very fast. Since I had some time on my hands I decided to learn Cocoa and improve the MPlayer OSX GUI. In the process, I also figured out how to compile a redistributable version of the MPlayer core and provide a recent build from the SVN.

Uchidachi & Shidachi

by Takwann (via)
The following text has as its core a translation of a chapter in Nishioka Tsuneo's book Budo-teki na Mono no Kangaekata: Shu, Ha, Ri (Budo Way of Thinking: Shu, Ha, Ri). Direct translations from the Japanese are frequently problematic because of the ambiguity inherent in the traditional Japanese style of essay writing. In order to clarify the author's ideas and best present his thoughts in English, we have supplemented the original text with a series of personal conversations.[1] The result thus intentionally suggests the flavor of teachings passed down from master to disciple.

Vega - Opera's vector graphics library - By Opera Core Concerns

by karlcow

Vega was created shortly after we started working on SVG support. When we added SVG support in Opera we needed a vector graphics library. We looked into what what available to use and met our requirements (fast, low memory usage and works on platforms ranging from phones to TVs and desktop computers). We did not find and good match for our needs, so we decided to write our own.

Shortly after we created Vega we added <canvas> support, which also uses Vega.

The most recent addition to Vega is the ability to use a hardware accelerated back-end. The back-ends we are using at the moment are OpenGL and Direct3D.
