Ecoshack began in 2003 as a Joshua Tree-based experimental design lab, a place where architects, designers, artists and anyone else with a passion for change could design, build and hang out. We can still remember watching your new posts come in one-by-one the day we launched. Now we’re waiting for five new servers to arrive to help us handle the 330 million (that’s 0.3 billion!!) hits and 20 million new posts we’re projecting for August.

Though imprisoned they are everywhere among us. Two thousand, one hundred and fifty nine political prisoners are currently incarcerated in the most horrendous of prison conditions in Burma’s notorious jails. Since the 1988 popular democracy movement inside Burma was crushed in a ruthless crackdown by the military regime, thousands of people have been arrested, tortured and given long prison sentences for their beliefs and political activities. Moreover, even after political prisoners are released, they continue to face persecution. The military uses all available means to intimidate, harass and isolate former political prisoners in order to prevent them from conducting political activities.

So I’ve tended to be plain accepting that HTML 5 will be whatever it is, and if its bad its bad because of Hickson and a certain crowd. I have no power to affect the obsessive thoughts of certain individuals one way or the other. I’m also probably representative of quite a large group of the silent disenchanted who will continue to code in HTML 4 or XHTML 1 well into the future and fight on building websites in whatever tag soup monstrosity we are burdened with on the day.

HTML 5 est "community driven", ce qui concrètement signifie que seuls ceux qui ont la capacité de travailler à plein temps dessus ont une petite chance de faire entendre une voix différente de la WTF. Mais de toute façon, vu comme c'est parti, HTML 5 finira en browser-sniffing (ou "feature detection" comme on dit aujourd'hui), ce qui en fait déjà un échec immense.
