by innipukinn (via)
The resource requirements in manpower and services in the Park include additional ranger personnel and their training, the creation of a documentation centre on the island itself, and improvement of signage and visitor facilities. The new management plan currently being prepared with the active support of the world Monuments Fund will make a substantial contribution to the improvement of the present situation, it is recommended that this should be submitted to the world Heritage Committee for comment by the secretariat and by ICOMOS as soon as it is completed.

Magyar This website has been created to show the progress of an academic research into the netlabel scene and its social and technical consequences for our reality and putting it in perspective with the open content movement . During the past months, I have kept you updated on the emerging results of my efforts to map and analyze this growing phenomenon, putting it in an academic perspective with several resources. The research is completed now, with many thanks to all of those who contributed. It is great to get many positive reactions from interested people, and I feel I would like to contribute even more to netaudio and academical, political and social awareness of it. For those interested, you can download the final research paper, by clicking the button below. Feel free to contact me for any comments, questions or suggestions!

Linux.com :: Parallel SSH execution and a single shell to control them all

by camel (via)
Many people use SSH to log in to remote machines, copy files around, and perform general system administration. If you want to increase your productivity with SSH, you can try a tool that lets you run commands on more than one remote machine at the same time. Parallel ssh, Cluster SSH, and ClusterIt let you specify commands in a single terminal window and send them to a collection of remote machines where they can be executed. Why you would need a utility like this when, using openSSH, you can create a file containing your commands and use a bash for loop to run it on a list of remote hosts, one at a time? One advantage of a parallel SSH utility is that commands can be run on several hosts at the same time. For a short-running task this might not matter much, but if a task needs an hour to complete and you need to run it on 20 hosts, parallel execution beats serial by a mile. Also, if you want to interactively edit the same file on multiple machines, it might be quicker to use a parallel SSH utility and edit the file on all nodes with vi rather than concoct a script to do the same edit. Many of these parallel SSH tools include support for copying to many hosts at once (a parallel version of scp) or using rsync on a collection of hosts at once. Because the parallel SSH implementations know about all the hosts in a group, some of them also offer the ability to execute a command "on one host" and will work out which host to pick using load balancing. Finally, some parallel SSH projects let you use barriers so that you can execute a collection of commands and explicitly have each node in the group wait until all the nodes have completed a stage before moving on to the next stage of processing.

QuickStart Configures Your Ubuntu System Without Terminal Work

by decembre
Linux only: QuickStart, a free automation utility for Ubuntu Linux systems, makes it easy to perform partial or full system backups of any partition, synchronize folders and update them on a schedule, and take care of other tasks a beginner would normally need to spend serious time researching. The tiny app opens a simple interface listing your choices, although dialog prompts guide you through any steps requiring input. The tools for installing DVD playing codecs, backing up your Master Boot Record, and creating synchronized backups seem particularly helpful, and while I haven't tested every function, a handful of them completed without any problems. QuickStart is a free download for Ubuntu systems only; both links below carry non-terminal installation instructions for the script.
