CSS Frameworks and Semantic Class Names

by dzc
One of the most common complaints about CSS frameworks like Blueprint, YUI Grids, and 960.gs is that they require designers to dirty their fingers by adding presentational class names to their HTML documents, like so:

WordPress › Free WordPress Themes

by mozkart (via)
While our directory is full of fantastic themes, sometimes people want to use something that they know has support behind it, and don't mind paying for that. Contrary to popular belief, GPL doesn't say that everything must be zero-cost, just that when you receive the software or theme that it not restrict your freedoms in how you use it. With that in mind, here are a collection of folks who provide GPL themes with extra paid services available around them. Some of them you may pay for access, some of them are membership sites, some may give you the theme for zero-cost and just charge for support. What they all have in common is people behind them who support open source, WordPress, and its GPL license.

SOA Manifesto - Stefan Tilkov's Random Stuff

by karlcow

The reason for the manifesto being somewhat vague, in my opinion, is a good one – describe the values that are common to those who aim to improve upon the typical company's IT landscape, regardless of the actual technical architecture.

DSMW is an extension of Semantic Mediawiki (SMW). It allows to create a network of SMW servers that share common semantic wiki pages. DSMW manages synchronisation of shared semantic pages and ensures CCI consistency as in Google Wave. CCI stands for Causality, Convergence, Intentions (see papers for more informations).

Hello » About

by Spone & 1 other
Howdy folks! Hello is a simple app that helps people make friends and have more fun at conferences. What does it do? The idea is fairly simple: When you arrive at the conference, simply say which seat you're sitting in, via Twitter. You can then browse the rest of the audience and see else is sitting around you, what their interest are, and whether you have anything in common. You can also search the audience for specific names or skillset (php, designer, marketer, etc).

Peeking inside your doctor's notes

by medtours06
Almost all of us have been to the doctor at some point or the other in our lives. One of the common things you would have noted in your meetings with your doctor is him scribbling down notes. But, have you wondered what he writes in such notes? Do you think you should be allowed to see those notes? And, are you prepared to see what your doctor might have written about your meeting and your physiological and psychological conditions?

Appulous : The iPhone and iPod Touch Application Index

by sbrothier & 3 others
As many iPhone and iPod touch owners have discovered, Apple's iTunes App Store has many flaws which render it useless to the common user. Apple has chosen to allow a multitude of ridiculous, worthless, poorly-represented applications through its "strict" screening process, nearly all written by mediocre programmers with a dream of getting rich quick. Many of these programmers game the reviews system, misrepresent their application in the description, and generally try to swindle the honest buyer. Applications generally do not cost much, but small fees add up. The iPhone/iPod community has wasted so much money on these programs, an epidemic has taken hold where people have simply stopped buying apps they aren't certain of so they don't find themselves purchasing yet another waste of a program.

Shoebot | Main / HomePage browse

by karlcow

Shoebot is a pure Python graphics robot: It takes a Python script as input, which describes a drawing process, and outputs a graphic in a common open standard format (SVG, PDF, PostScript, or PNG). It has a simple text editor GUI, and scripts can describe their own GUIs for controlling variables interactively. Being pure Python, it can also be used as a Python module, a plugin for Python-scriptable tools such as Inkscape, and run from the command line. It was directly inspired by DrawBot and Shoes. Thus, "Shoebot."

Kanban vs Scrum - Henrik Kniberg's blog

by karlcow

There’s a lot of buzz on Kanban right now in the agile software development community. Since Scrum has become quite mainstream now, a common question is “so what is Kanban, and how does it compare to Scrum?” Where do they complement each other? Are there any potential conflicts? Here’s an attempt to clear up some of the fog.

Fascist Dictator Benito Mussolini

by access2
Since Squidoo insists that we "respect everyone," all I can say is that Il Duce had a lot in common with today's "hip-hop" Republicans. Obviously, that's a good thing!
