My Platformer Sprites / UI

Also practice on colour-choice-- your colour ramps are relatively-safe and desaturated. Think more of hue-shifting, especially when it comes to shadow

Speak Up › Dear Lulu, The New Standards

by karlcow

My plan for the workshop is to investigate the visible and tangible parameters of graphic design — type specimens, halftone screens and, in particular, colour tests and calibration charts — and make a book of our own self-produced tests which we will send to print on Friday afternoon using the online print-on-demand system Lulu. The book project will therefore act as a colour/type/pattern test of the very system with which it is produced. "Print-on-demand" is an increasingly important production system which can serve to make us designers rethink the impact our profession has on the environment and to question the often wasteful print volumes and production methods requested of us by our clients. Graphic designers, and especially students, have a chance to use and subvert these relatively new (and fairly cheap) technological systems to our advantage.

News: Manip Tips & Tricks #1: Aegis-Strife

by mozkart
1.- Textures: Many people have asked me how I use textures. It’s pretty simple. Instead of taking some texture images and merging them, what I do is putting one as a background. Then, I start taking the rest of textures I want to use, and low their opacity around 40-50% and sometimes using Soft Light. Then I start cloning them with dispersion options to make them look smooth. I erase zones I think that are rough and then I merge all texture layers and desaturate them. Later I tweak with colour using Colour balance, Hue and saturation, Levels, Curves and Photography filters. That’s what I do for backgrounds. Later I add a single texture to cover the entire image, usually in Soft Light with 40% opacity.

Styling the Blockquote Element [Zero to One-Eighty]

by karlcow

I wanted to add opening and closing quotes to the blockquote element on this site using stylesheets, where: (a) n paragraphs would be enclosed by a single pair, (b) the closing mark immediately follows the last word of the quotation, and (c) the marks use a different size, colour, typeface and baseline position than the body text:

:: Made in Bunch ::

by oqdbpo
Bunch was born in 2003, from a group of London College of Printing graduates who shared a passion for design and a desire to do things differently. Today in 2007 we maintain those key beliefs with more like minded people. Over the years we've grown to nine, and are now a bunch of illustrators, typographers, print designers, 2d animators, 3d artists, web weavers and creative thinkers operating out of London, Zagreb and Singapore. We all understand the strength we have as a diverse group - that as Bunch we are greater than the sum of our parts. We are deeply motivated by what collaboration can bring, and we use our cultural differences to conjure up a unique take on the brief so we don't fall easily into trends or a house style. Our inter-disciplinary collaboration meanwhile lends us an ability to keep our brands pure across all platforms. As a collective, Bunch gears up or down, be the brief big or small, and we work together to colour the visual landscape with an alternative pigment. This attitude has been our safety net and kept us from falling into any particular industry, product, discipline or style as is the fate of many a design group. It's also helped to keep it fun.
